

Lt Col Maynard, "Bruce" Ashley USA (Ret) passed away on January 4, 2024 in San Antonio, TX. Bruce was born in Troy, NY to Herbert and Elsie Ashley on April 27, 1936. He went to school at Troy and Rouses Point, NY. He graduated from Norwich University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He served in the United States Army and during his service to his country, he worked many years in highway engineering in Vermont, Alaska, and eleven years with Caltrans in San Francisco, CA.
He obtained Registered Professional Civil Engineer Licenses from Vermont and California.The remainder of his career was with the US Army Facilities Engineering related work in Germany. His service in the US Army reserves spanned 23 years. Extended active duty tours at Ft Belvoir to attend the Engineer Officers Advanced Course, Fort Leavenworth to attend Command and General Staff College and 2 years at Fort Sam Houston, where he officially retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1996. Bruce also worked for Civil Service and finally retiring in 2001.
Bruce was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, loved music; played the trumpet during his highschool and college years, liked to play duplicate bridge, and walking his dog (Rex). He had a kind soul, was happiest when his children came to visit. Bruce will be forever missed.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Elsie Ashley; his sisters, Marilyn Tilton De Geovanni, Norma Richards, and Patricia Schumacher. In addition to his wife, Alba, Bruce is survived by his children, Kimberly (Franco), Paul and Brian (Kathy) from his marriage to Marcia; grandchildren Stephanie, Collin and Madisen; 3 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and sister, Shirley Shaw of Severna Park, MD.
