

She was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend of 65 years, David Lee "Tex" Hill; her children, Mazie Lee Hill, David Lee Hill, Jr. and Lola Sale Hill; two of her sisters, Pat Sale Kemper and Allen Connor Sale Boothe; and her brothers-in-law, Dr. Craig P Bade and Sterling Price Boothe. In the months preceding her death she was cared for by her loving daughter, Shannon Hill Schaupp; Shannon's husband, Don; and her beloved niece, Nancy Bade Fuller.
Mazie is survived by her sister, Lola Sale Bade of Victoria, Texas; her daughter, Shannon Hill Schaupp; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mazie Caroline Sale was born in Cuero, Texas, on March 28, 1923, the third of four girls born to Dr. and Mrs. W. W. Sale. Growing up in Victoria, Texas, she later attended the Hockaday School for Girls, followed by the University of Alabama where she led the Beauty Section and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was active in the real estate business for almost 60 years, during which time she founded and led Mazie Sale Hill Realtors, then joined Kuper Realty in 1987, where she was active until weeks before her death. Selected as Realtor of the Year in 1970, she enjoyed many years as a top producer.
Mazie served as the first woman President of the San Antonio Board of Realtors and of the San Antonio Chapter of the American Red Cross. Contributing considerable talents to many businesses and organizations, she served in leadership positions on numerous committees and boards including the Board of Directors of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the Texas Association of Realtors, and Sunshine Cottage. She also served as a trustee of the UTSA School of Business and Air Force Village.
Like the poems she loved to writeand others loved to hear her readMazie's life was lyrical, spontaneous, filled with laughter, and a constant joy to those around her. To those blessed to know her, she unreservedly gave life's greatest gifts: a sense of purpose and a contagious love for our Lord.
Mazie's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to those who provided such selfless care and comfort to Mazie during her final days, especially Dr. Dean McCracken; Dr. Harold Felter; pharmacist David Worsham; Royce, Maria Alicia, and Dora of Grace Hospice; and numerous friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 15, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, 404 N. Alamo Street, San Antonio, Texas.
A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the Church, hosted by Kuper-Sotheby's Realtors.
