

On Saturday, June 4, 2022, Melville Harry Steubing went to be with the Lord (John 3:16). He loved Jesus, his family, and friends. Throughout his 85 years, Melville enjoyed ranching, bowling, traveling, reading the Bible, and playing guitar.
Melville Steubing was born in San Antonio, Texas August 27, 1936, to Ella Louise Tampke Steubing and Harry William Steubing. He was raised to love ranching and owned cows at a young age when his family purchased a Webb County ranch near Laredo, Texas. His family had several ranches that they lived on, starting in Wetmore, Charlotte, and Carrizo Springs, Texas.
Melville was very involved in sports and activities during High School which included Football, Basketball, Track, Tennis, Volleyball, Lettermens Club, Annual Staff, Buffaloe Staff (Editor), Literary Events, Class Officer, Senior Play, Band, and graduated as Salutatorian of Schertz Cibolo High School in 1955. He attended Blinn Jr. College (where he met his future wife Cinda) and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1959 where he was also involved in many activities including Alpha Chi, Kappa Delta Pi President, F.B.L.A., B.A. Club, and T.S.E.A. Melville married Cinda Belle Howard from Iola, Texas on June 27, 1959, at Iola Missionary Baptist Church. He worked as an IRS agent in San Antonio for 25 years. Melville and Cinda worked on the ranches while raising their two girls Brenda and Beverly. Melville managed JX Ranches consisting of ranches in Texas near Carrizo Springs, Bogata, and Clarksville up until his passing. Melville was a Christian man, he did not like confrontation, he had a generous heart, he had a dry sense of humor or wit, he loved talking with everyone and he enjoyed a good meal.
Melville was preceded in death by his parents Ella and Harry Steubing. His sister Lorine Haufler and husband Clarence. His brother Chester Steubing and wife Velma. Melville is survived by his wife of 63 years Cinda Steubing; daughters Brenda Steubing and husband James Chapman of San Antonio, TX, Beverly Box and husband Gary Box of Carrizo Springs, TX; Grandchildren; Chelsie Shock and husband John Shock II of Lafayette, LA, Chadley Box and wife Ashley Box of College Station, TX. Great Grandchildren; Sabine, Colin, Hayes, and Margot Shock. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a lifetime of friends.
Services for Melville Harry Steubing will be held at Porter Loring North in San Antonio, Texas on
Tuesday, June 28th, 2022 at 3:00 PM. Visitation is from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM. Interment will be on a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to a charity of your choice.
