

SMSGT Melvin Covington was born July 26th, 1955, to Robert and Dora Covington of Bennettsville, SC.He joined the USAF in January 1974 as an aircraft electrician. Melvin married Cleola D. Campbell in January of 1975, and after two years of being stationed at Myrtle Beach AFB, they relocated overseas to Hahn AFB in Germany. In 1979, they moved back to The States and were stationed at Andrews AFB, Maryland, serving presidential support working on Air Force I aircraft for ten years.
In 1989, Melvin was stationed at Langley AFB in Hampton, VA. During this time, he was deployed to serve in the Operation: Desert Storm War for a year. After 23 years of service, SMSGT Melvin Covington retired from the United States Air Force in January of 1997. After retiring, Melvin went back to school and became an IT specialist, working for USAF-Cyber Security. Over the course of eighteen years, Melvin was stationed at Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC, RAFB Croughton UK, RAFB Lakenheath UK, and Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX where he retired in 2016. Throughout their 47 ½ years of blissful marriage, Melvin and Cleo had four children; Meltrina, Melvin Eric, Asante and Cloie; and five grandchildren; Breeya, Bryson, Brooklyn, Kade, and Natalia Jane.
Melvin lost his battle on May 5th, 2023, at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. He fought a good fight all the way through until the Lord spoke to him and he knew it was time to let go. Melvin accepted his wings and joined his parents, Robert & Dora Covington his brothers; Luther, Robert Jr, Wilford, Willie, Jimmy, J.D & Francis, sisters; Gloria, Jenny, & Patricia in eternal rest in wait of the day of our Lord. Melvin leaves behind to cherish his memories, his dedicated and devoted wife, Cleo, their children, and grandchildren. He also leaves behind a son Chandrick E., two brothers, T.C. (AnnieMae), Moses, and two sisters, Lillian (John, & grandchildren), D’Elizabeth (Fred, LaShawn, Damien & Ian).Also, three sister-in-law’s Mose Lee Campbell (Willie Lee), Judy Covington (F. Bernard, F. Bryce, J. Deon, J. Donnell), and Virginia Covington (Joni, Chris, Chantell and granddaughter). Also, best friend Deborah Lewis, goddaughter LaToya Lewis-Watson (Aaron and three godchildren, Layla, Aaron, and Avery). Also, many loyal and devoted friends.
