To Mr. Alwais, 
Thank you and your family for the wonderful years we had coming to the Alwais Toy Box in Northwest Center. For many years in the 60's my family lived on Renner Drive just above Northwest center and my brother and I would get our allowances on Saturday mornings and the first thing we would do is get on our bikes and ride down to the "Toy Box" to see what new wonders you had put in your store. From a Jerry Mahoney doll to a new Slinky, the Toy Box was what a toy store should always be like. 
You will always be a big part of our wonderful childhood memories

Mrs Alwais, Gloria and I were saddened to hear that Mr. A passed away. We know that a part of you went with him, but you have always been such a strong person, so we know your strength will get you through this time of sorrow. I am deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Alwais' passing. Some of my fondest, early memories are of him, the Toy Box on Vance Jackson more than 40 years ago, Rosemary, and the boys - Steve and Howard. Living only two blocks from the store, on Nassau, I was often there for the Duncan yoyo tournaments, the model building contests, and just to ogle all of the things that interest kids of all ages. Mr. Alwais took time with kids in a way that no one in the business does now. He made a personal effort to always say hello and ask after my family. He was the first Jew I had ever met and still is one of the nicest, kindest men I have ever known. He and all of you are in my prayers. May God bless and keep you one and all.

I would like to offer my condolences and memories to the Alwais family on the passing of Mr.Alwais. I lived on Mink Drive and the TOY BOX was my favorite store in the whole neighborhood. I was driving down Vance Jackson, with my wife Thursday the 8th and pointed to the place where the TOY BOX once was. I told her of the fond memories I had and what a neat place it was for a'kid'. It will live in my memory. May God bless you all in this time of sorrow.

I knew Melvyn Alwais through the toy store chain he and his family owned and operated for so many years here in central and south central Texas. An unimaginable number of lives were touched by that chain, and I am happy to count myself among them. I worked for Melvyn for 8 years, and will never be able to thank him or the family enough for their contribution to the man I am today.

Dear Steve, 
I was so sorry to hear about your dad. I know it has been a long, hard battle for him. The memories you will always have of him or immeasurable and I know you will cherish the time you had together. I wish your mother well, it will be your job to make sure she is O.K. I had said we would get together after the first of the year, but I am not sure what has happened to the time. David returned home yesterday after successfully completing his first year of college. Lindsay graduates on June 1st. It is also hard to believe that on Sunday, it will be eleven years since Allan died. I would love to hear from you soon and maybe we can all get together. Again I send my condolences for you dad. Howard, We are so sorry to read of your father's passing. Please accept our deepest sympathies. Glad to see he had a nice, long life, however. We think of you two often and how much fun we had together. We gave up the bowling a long time ago, as we built a new home in F.O.R., joined the Country Club, and both of us are golf addicts. There are two courses to play here, but we play others in the area, as well. Hope to run into you two sometime and do a little 'catch up.' We are great-grandparents now, as one of my granddaughters and her husband had their first child last November. Can you believe?! Again, our condolences. Take care,
