Meredith Ann Engel Braden, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on February 7, 2024. Born on September 29, 1937, Meredith was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Louis Braden, Jr., to whom she was married for 52 cherished years, as well as her parents Meredith (Sandy) and Dorothy Engel, brother Robert (Bobby) Engel, and niece Diane Hillman Schwartz.
Meredith attended Ursuline Academy, Incarnate Word High School, Sophie Newcomb (Women's College of Tulane University) and graduated from Trinity University with a degree in Homebuilding.
Meredith and Arthur were members of the Sacred Heart Family Guild for over 60 years. Many of the families in this small guild were lifelong friends from grade school and high school. The group gathered to celebrate Mass and for fellowship every month and often vacationed together.
Meredith leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her children and extended family: Vaughan (Hope) Braden, Timothy and Kathleen Braden, Erin and Billy Childress, and her grandchildren Cody and Alexandra Clark, Caitlin and Colin Campbell, Jamie Messinger, and Chad Braden. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Cooper Braden Clark and Colter Braden Campbell, as well as nieces and a nephew, Maureen Hillman, Brad Hillman, Elaine Muellich, Amy Hillman, and Allison Engel; and great-nephews and niece Christopher Smith, Jim Schwartz, and Kathryn Schwartz. Meredith lovingly filled a maternal role for her niece, Allison, and her neighbors, Nanci Fessenden Struble and David Fessenden. Her love and support of her extended family knew no bounds.
Throughout her life, Meredith was deeply involved in her community and dedicated to various organizations and charities, including Holy Spirit Catholic Church and School (where she was a founding member), Saint Monica’s Guild, and St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church (where she served as a leader for the Homebound Ministry). With all three children and one niece attending Holy Spirit Catholic School, Meredith was a full time volunteer there.
Meredith's impact will be felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will be dearly missed. May she rest in eternal peace.
