

Letha Merle Hastings Williams was born in Gonzales County on October 26, 1922 to Ninnan and Letha Spear Hastings. She was a cheerleader at Nixon High School and graduated in 1941. After graduation, she worked at Kelly Field during World War II.
On November 1, 1945 she married O. G. (Glenn) Williams. She was a proud graduate of Southwest Texas State Teacher's College (Texas State University). She taught elementary school in the San Antonio Independent School District for 34 years before retiring in 1986. Merle and Glenn were residents of Hollywood Park since 1967, where they enjoyed many friends and neighbors over the years.
Merle enjoyed dancing and in retirement enjoyed line dancing, playing bridge, bingo, and bunco, attending teacher retirement gatherings and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Coker United Methodist Church.
Merle is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Glenn Williams; son, Hank Williams and wife Rose; granddaughters whom she adored, Katherine Leigh (Katie) Williams and Christine Marie (Christie) Williams; Glenn's nieces, Lynnda Wilkins, Glynnda Wesson, and Mary K. De Rick; lifelong friend, Vivian Ehlinger and husband Herb; numerous cousins whom Merle loved on both her and Glenn's side; many, many friends. Merle lived and loved life to the fullest getting the most out of each and every day, never meeting a stranger and greeting all with a great big Texas Howdy. She will be missed!
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Porter Loring North from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
