

Merrill was born in Altoona, Blair, Pennsylvania, on April 21,1943. He is the son of Merrill Dell Hammon and Helen Mckinney Hammon. He was the oldest of four children.
He is survived by his warrior wife of 59 years, Patricia Hollingsworth Hammon and their 5 children… Sean Hammon, Marnie Rich, Nicole VanNoy, Nathan Hammon and Erin Becker. His is also survived by his brothers Richard and David Hammon and his sister Rosemary Gill. His legacy includes 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He lived in Huntingdon, PA through High School. He moved to Flagstaff, AZ where he met and married his sweetheart Pat and graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor degree in Chemistry. After graduation he moved with his family to Mesa, Arizona and started working for Motorola Inc. In 1982, he started working for Advanced Micro Devices which took his family to San Antonio Texas. When Sony Microelectronics bought AMD in 1990, he became the Executive Vice President and General Manager of the San Antonio plant. He also served on the Board of Directors of Texas Commerce Bank.
After retirement Merrill kept himself busy by becoming a realtor, opening his own brokerage, becoming the owner of a Harley Davidson Motorcycle Shop and consulting with chip manufacturing companies. He also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Falcon Club of America. He enjoyed spending time riding his Harley and tinkering on his antique cars. He loved taking his grandchildren for rides on his Harley and in his 1963 Falcon convertible.
Although mild mannered and quiet, he was a strong, kind and powerful leader who inspired all those who knew him. He was loved and admired by many and will be deeply missed.
A funeral service for Merrill will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM with a visitation beginning at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2103 St Cloud, San Antonio, TX 78228.
