Dr. Michael Henry Berler

Dr. Michael Henry Berler passed away on March 20, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on October 9, 1951, in Galveston, Texas, Michael lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.

For 44 years, Dr. Berler served the San Antonio community as a passionate and respected psychologist. His work touched countless lives, and he was known not only for his professional excellence but also for his empathy, warmth, and deep care for his patients.

Michael began his academic journey at the University of Texas at Austin before earning his master’s degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. He later completed his Ph.D. in psychology at a university in California, continuing his pursuit of knowledge and his commitment to his field.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arlene Francis and James Melvin Berler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jacquline (“Jill”) Berler; his daughter, Amanda Hoates and her husband, Chris; and his cherished grandchildren, Avery and Beau Hoates. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Polinasky; his brothers, Steven Berler and Jeffrey Berler; and his stepdaughters, Marion Beau Sanchez and her husband, Gabriel, and Hallie Marcott.

Michael is further survived by his extended family, Dr. Arnold Vardiman and his wife, Tracy, along with their children, Phoebe Vardiman and Claude-Duval Vardiman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family extends a special thank you to The Rosenthal family of Houston, Texas, for their care and support.

A graveside service will be held at Temple Beth-El Memorial Park, 1715 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218, on March 23, 2026, beginning at 12:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Berler’s name to The Ecumenical Center, 8310 Ewing Halsell Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78229.

Dr. Berler’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the community he served so faithfully.
