Michael “Mike” Wayne Lancaster, age 66, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, in San Antonio, TX after a relentless battle with multiple cancers. He was born on July 16th, 1957, in San Antonio, TX, to parents Lorraine E. and Walter S. Lancaster, Jr.
Mike was a proud alumnus of MacArthur High School and attended the University of Texas, where he cherished his time as an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. After college, Mike embarked on a career in land development and started Lancaster Development Company. He developed numerous residential subdivisions in San Antonio and the surrounding areas, including Garden Ridge and New Braunfels.
More than his professional achievements, Mike cherished his role as a father. He deeply loved spending time with his children, coaching their sports teams, leading them on unforgettable outdoor adventures, and imparting wisdom as they grew into adults. When not working or with his family, Mike enjoyed mule deer hunting in West Texas, fishing on the Devil’s River, playing polo, caring for his horses, and relaxing outdoors listening to tunes by Jimmy Buffett, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Guy Clark with a drink in hand.
Despite multiple cancer diagnoses, Mike’s indomitable spirit never wavered, and he continued to live life on his own terms. He will be remembered for his vibrant enthusiasm for life, indulging in good meals, sharing laughter with friends and family, and his steadfast dedication to the people he loved. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Mike leaves behind his longtime partner, Kim Youngblood. Mike is survived by his daughters, Caroline Davenport (Brandon) and Sarah Sbrogna (Derek); his son, Walker Lancaster; his grandson, Benjamin Sbrogna; his mother, Lorraine Lancaster; his sister, Lisa Chegin (Tom); his brother, Mark Lancaster; his nephews Jack Chegin and Cade Chegin; and numerous other relatives and friends. Mike was predeceased by his father, Walter Lancaster.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all of Mike’s doctors and nurses for their dedicated care, as well as to everyone who supported him in his final months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
