Michael Anthony Robles, age 66, entered eternal life on Friday, April 10, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born July 11, 1959, in San Antonio to Elida and Roger Robles. He was the oldest of four children, including his brothers, Sam, Mark and Joseph. Mike was welcomed “home” by his parents and his youngest brother Joseph.
Mike worked in various careers while he took care of his mom and dad, especially as a selfless caregiver when their health declined, a testament to his love for them.
Mike loved using his IT skills to help nonprofit organizations when they needed help. He was very happy to have worked with Dr. Mitch Finnie, to organize the database for the Catholic Physicians Guild of San Antonio (CPGSA). Dr. Finnie is a longtime member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and a former CPGSA president. Mike also volunteered to help the Pilgrim Center of Hope (PCH), led by founders Mary Jane and Deacon Tom Fox, also longtime parishioners of St. Matthew Church. One of the highlights of time spent helping at PCH was Mike going on one of its pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
Mike cherished his time serving in many ministry roles at St. Matthew Church, from sacristan, to lector, to coordinator of the Perpetual Adoration schedule. Everyone knew if they wanted to give Mike a hug, all they needed to do was to attend the Saturday vigil Mass—Mike would be there handling the soundboard, or as a lector, or any other role that was needed.
His spiritual life was truly formed by sitting with Jesus, present in the Blessed Sacrament, as much as possible. He often prayed with several young men who were discerning a vocation as a priest. Mike also was touched by the fervor and passion he encountered in Mother Angelica. During his last months of battling cancer, he happened upon a video of Mother Angelica discussing the value of redemptive suffering. This truly was a blessing for him to hear in Lent because he liked to say, “I still have a lot of things I want to do.”
When recognized healer Allen Ames visited St. Matthew Church on March 20, 2026, Mike asked him to pray over him for healing, which Allen did. God answered that prayer in a much different way: that same evening a “guest” at ABODE passed away, and Mike’s name was the first one on the wait list. As a 501(c)3 organization, ABODE is a beautiful small, residential home that provides compassionate care for those at end of life – all at no charge to the families and no insurance is accepted. Mike moved into the ABODE home on Monday, March 23, where he was cared for by certified grief educators and volunteers, around the clock. Family members and friends were able to come and visit him regularly in his final days.
Mike lived his life marked by determination and strong opinions, and never wavered in his strong Catholic faith.
He is survived by his brother Sam and his son Nicholas and daughter Sara Jean of San Antonio as well as his daughter Dawn Kelly of Chattanooga, TN; his brother Mark and his daughter Angelina of Dallas, and nephew Joseph Jr. and his wife Jessica and their children, Joseph, Ryleigh, Peyton, and Genevieve Robles, of Spring, TX.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, from 6:00 to 6:30 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with the Rosary to follow at 6:30 PM.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, May 18, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Following the Mass and refreshments, the procession will depart from St. Matthew Church at noon for the Robles Family Cemetery, where generations of family members, including ancestors from the Canary Islands, have been laid to rest.
Michael will be laid to rest beside his beloved mother, honoring his final wishes. Maps to the family cemetery will be available at the service.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Mike’s hospice caregiver team of Brandy Hamel, R.N., Denesa Campos, R.N., and Reanna Hedin, R.N., as well as many friends from St. Matthew Catholic Church and St. Mark Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mike’s memory to either ABODE Contemplative Care for the Dying, 8619 Post Oak Lane, SA 78217 (see abodehome.org) or to the Msgr. John Wagner Scholarship fund at St. Matthew Church.
