

Michael P. Ryan, D.D.S., passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2006. As with everything in life, whether loving his family, friends or young patients, he truly appreciated every moment to its fullest. He cherished every challenge, even his last, as he cycled to the top of a hill on a long ride in Michigan. A passionate, loving man, he enjoyed planning adventures, traveling and spending time with his family and many dear friends. He enjoyed riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, biking, boating, skiing, sailing, hiking and planning trips and weekend drives with his wife Sandy and members of the Porsche Club. He served as Commodore of the Lake Canyon Yacht Club for two terms and passionately served on the board of the Dirt Bike Club of San Antonio for more than 20 years.
Michael was born July 26, 1943 in Indio, California. An Illinois native, he married Sandra Rodighiero also of Chicago in 1969. He completed his undergraduate training at Loyola University and his D.D.S. degree at the University of Illinois Dental School in Chicago in 1971. He spent two years with the United States Public Health Service in the Indian Health Care Division.
After his two-year service commitment, the Ryans moved to Dallas where Michael completed his residency and earned his Master's from Baylor College of Dentistry. In 1973, the Ryans then moved to San Antonio where Michael began to practice Pediatric Dentistry. He was a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Southwest Society of Pediatric Dentistry, Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, San Antonio Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association and San Antonio Dental Association.
He served on the State Board of Dental Examiners Advisory committee for Anesthesia and Analagesia, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as Clinical Assistant Professor and Texas Dental Association Committee on Parenterial Sedation Manual and Enteral Sedation Manual. He served on staff and the board at Methodist Children's Hospital and Methodist Surgical Center.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents Genevieve Foley and Richard K. Ryan; his aunt and uncle Mary and Walter Ryan; his dear niece Kelly Jones; his mother-in-law, Cecelia Harrington; and father-in-law, Cris Rodighiero. Michael is survived by his wife of 37 years Sandra Lee Ryan; his sons Christopher Michael Ryan of San Antonio and Scott Anthony Ryan of Dallas; his sister Patricia Ryan Jones and her husband Richard of Houston; his nephew Shawn Jones, his wife Amy and their sons Joshua and Ethan of Houston; his brother-in-law Donald Rodighiero, his wife Yvonne and their sons Donny and Dean all of Laguna Niguel, California.
