

Michael Bernard was born in Spearville, Kansas to Bernard & Elfreida Schulte on April 14, 1951. He attended West Point Military Academy and graduated in 1973. Continuing his education, he received his Ph. D from the University of the Incarnate Word. He married Sandra Lee Schulte on May 1980 in Pittsburgh, PA. He served as an Officer for the US Army for 20 years. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal. He was involved in Marathons and served as judge in Horse jump competitions where he earned many awards of excellence. He was a lifetime member of the Turkish American Association of San Antonio. He completed most of the national marathons and received awards. Michael has touched many people’s lives by helping almost everyone who needed help.
Michael B. Schulte, son of Bernard and Elfrieda (Laudick) Schulte was born April 15, 1951. He graduated from Spearville High School in May 1969. During his senior year, he received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. Beginning the academy in 1969 he graduated in 1973, received his commission in the U.S. Army serving in various states and foreign countries. In 1983, he was assigned to Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh as an instructor and assistant Professor of Military Science in the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. While there, Michael met and married Sandra Lee Myers, on July 23, 1983 in Bon Avon, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA. In 1989, they were transferred to Turkiye to the city of Ankara. In 1992 there assignment ended and they moved to Fort Sam Houston located in San Antonio, Texas. In 1993, Michael retired from the U.S. Army. In late 1992 Murat Tas came to live with Michael and Sandra, they had met Murat during their tour in Turkiye. Murat came to the U.S. to further his education. Michael and Sandra adopted Murat in 1993. Later on Murat married to Sevda Tas late 1997 and they three daughters, Melodi, Melissa, and Mina. After retirement, Michael worked for three companies operating in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bosnia – Herzegovina from 1993 through 1998. On August 2012, Michael earned a Ph.D. in Higher education and taught various U.S. institutions and Baskent university in Ankara, Turkiye until he decided to spend quality time with his grandchildren.
Michael is preceded in death by his wife Sandra Schulte.
Michael is survived by his son Murat and his daughter-in-law Sevda, his sister Berna Mae, grandchildren, Melodi, Melissa and Mina.
Funeral services and Visitations will be held 10 a.m. January 27, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
