

Family and friends knew Mike as an honorable and dependable man, always ready to offer a helping hand, a story, words of wisdom, or a source of comfort. His kindness, integrity, and generosity touched many lives.
Born on February 19, 1948, in The Dalles, Oregon, Mike graduated from Lyle High school in Lyle, Washington before joining the U.S. Army. After his short stint in the Army, Mike went to college at Southwest Texas State University earning a Bachelor of Science in Hospital Professions (December 1978) Mike had a career in Respiratory Care at several hospitals, all while being the Boy Scout Leader of San Antonio Pack 911 where Chris and Scott spent much of their time, attending campouts and Pinewood Derby car building and racing.
Mike is survived by his sons, Christopher Smith and his wife Christine Smith; Scott Smith and his wife Kaitlin Smith. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren, and 2 twin great-grandbabies on the way, and many cherished lifelong and newly made friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship and example.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Water W. Smith (1994), Nellie Smith (1991), his brother Richard Smith (2012), and his sister Patricia Richardson (2018).
A procession will depart Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Ave, at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 20, 2026, and travel to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery where military honors will be rendered at 10:45 AM. Friends are invited to gather at 9:00 AM at the funeral home.
