Tonight I looked in my bathroom mirror, adjusted my wire-rimmed glasses, and thought about the time in Spring 1973 that an optical tech at Shaw A.F.B. South Carolina gave me a pair of wire frames, free.  It was Airman Michael J. Yuchnitz.  I was a medical corpman in the Air Force hospital,  Michael was an optical tech there.  Over the years I have thanked the day Michael J. Yuchnitz, wherever he may have gone, helped me look a little better.  I often look back on that day at Shaw A.F.B. Hospital, my vision aided by a pair of wire-rimmed frames.  Thank you Michael.

He's in a better place and will be missed

I will miss my brother so very much. I share that with my entire family. I wish for the city of San Antonio to know how passionate he was for this great city. He did LOVE the people of San Antonio, and did many many things for them. I pray when he is remembered, he will be fondly remembered. God Bless you all, and our family too. We miss so deeply...

Noah and family, I was so saddened to hear about the loss of your father. I was the letter carrier when ya'll moved in to Oak hills. I had to come to his office almost daily and got to know about your family, and he took care of my family with all our eye glass needs. I am just so sorry he is gone. Mike was a very good friend always willing to help anyone. I would go see him and chat for hours he will truely be missed. My prayers are with his family.

I saw Mr Mike on Wednesday, he looked very dapper, but most of all at peace.
Family and friends of Mr Mike- My God wrap you in His love, peace and strength as you face the days ahead.
Children and grand children of Mr Mike- His legacy was compassion, kindness and generosity- May these qualities be what you carry forth and do, in your days on this earth. He is in God's hands now.

My family and I are very sad at the passing of Mr. Mike. He is living proof that the Everyman, can do great things by simply serving people with joy. Years ago before my grandmother passed away, I took her to his shop and he fit her personally with some rose tinted glasses. The extra care and attention made her day bright. He also as a favor to one of many old Air Force friends gave a free pair of glasses to a family member of mine during hard times. As for me he helped me gain confidence in my selling ability which I and my family will always be grateful. The Bible says a man chooses his way, but God directs his steps. Although I personally did not know Mr.Mike, I know in my heart he is a great man who loves his family & community. San Antonio has lost a great person, but his legacy will forever live. Peace and comfort to all the family.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. The last time I talked to your father he wanted me to write his life story . He trusted that I knew his heart and respected him for the way he helped others. He certainly helped a family near and dear to my heart. May God be with you in this time of sorrow .

I met Mike many many years ago, when he first started out at the tiny shop on Military next to the old Kettle restaurant. I got my very first pair of contact lenses from him and he had the best prices in town. He told me he couldn't see charging a lot for contacts when they didn't cost that much to order and he believed in passing the savings along to his customers. Thanks for that Mike. At a time when we were a financially struggling military family he made it possible for me to buy the contacts and have a spare pair, too. I will always remember him. Rest in Paradise you've earned it.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is difficult to understand why things happen in life the way that they do. Your father was a very caring man that wanted to give back to the community through his optical business. I know that he cared deeply for his children and spent a lot of time with you. I used to give you riding lessons when you were 10 or 11 at Stoney Creek ranch. I have never forgotten your family and was moved by the pain that you are enduring during this difficult time. My condolences to the Yuchnitz family. I was a friend of Mike who worked down the street at San Antonio Optical and Apex Optical back in the early days when Mike started his optical business. Sending my thoughts and prayers to his family.

As I write this it is with a heavy heart I still can't believe your gone Mr.Mike it seems like just yesterday that we were at your home having dinner or just having a get together and the stories you use to tell always making us (your employees) laugh.I had the pleasure of working for you for over 18 years as your courier but you never treated me as an employee but as a member of your family as you did with all your employees I will miss you very much ..My family and I wish to express our deepest condolences to Noah, Justin & Misty you are all in my prayers
