

Michaela Ann Staskavage, loving wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2022 at the age of 81. She was born on May 11, 1941 to Andrew and Frances Yanicelli in Susquehanna, PA. She graduated from Laurel Hill Academy. She was a devout Catholic and her love for and devotion to Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church is evidenced by her participation as a member of the Alter Society, where she had a hand in all seasonal religious adornments. She was also an original member of the Ladies Society where she donated countless hours to the Rosefest, an event she loved. Michaela was a faithful, passionate religious education instructor. She was a loyal member of the Columbiettes where she volunteered numerous hours in support of The Knights of Columbus. She energetically served as a team mother for youth softball and a dedicated elementary school room mother for her three children. A Cub Scout Den Mother, a Girl Scout leader, an enthusiastic member of the “Red Hatters Society”, and a valued substitute teacher for both the Northside Independent School District and Southwest Independent School District. Michaela is survived by her daughter, Denise and husband Colonel Charles Combs; son, Andrew Staskavage and wife Karen, their children, Sophia, Ella and Mitchel; daughter, Brenda Saldana and her children Christopher and wife Katie, Kasey and Cody; brother, Nicholas and wife Carroll Yanicelli and their children, son Baker and wife April, their children Sloane, B.B. and Cashen; son Michael and wife Kristin, their children Bowman and Rylan; and son Christian and wife Erica, their children Mary Christian and Andrew. Preceded in death by her husband Michael; her parents, Andrew and Frances Yanicelli.
Her legacy to her family and everyone who knew her is powerful and enduring, she will be greatly missed. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude to all of the doctors, nurses and medical staff that cared for Michaela at 59th Medical Wing at Wilford Hall (USAF), Brooke Army Medical Center, and the staff and caregivers of Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs. Visitation will take place from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, Rosary begins at 7:00 P.M.. Funeral mass will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Interment following at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
