Michele Elizabeth Ovalle of San Antonio, Texas, 49, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning of July 18, 2026. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024, she courageously fought a winning battle but devastatingly succumbed to the damages wreaked by her treatments. Her perseverance and unrelenting strength will never be forgotten by the community of loved ones around her.
Born on September 17, 1976, to Jerry and Daniele Smith, Michele grew up in the Houston/Sugar Land area. She attended Clements High School before obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston. During her time at UH, she developed lasting memories and lifelong friendships and was an active member of the Delta Zeta sorority.
Following graduation, Michele went on to lead a successful career in the insurance industry. It was during college that she met her loving husband, Robert, and this year would have marked their 25th wedding anniversary.
Michele was an incredibly devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was endlessly supportive of her children's passions and extracurricular activities, always in the stands or chaperoning her son Robbie's band performances and in the audience for her daughter Aubrey's dance recitals. She loved to walk and run and frequently participated in marathons with her "5K gals." You could always count on Michele to be cheering on her Cougars basketball and football teams. Go Coogs!
Michele also loved her dogs, Maddie and Reagan, who were a comforting presence in her life. We hold close the thought that she is now reunited with Stormy, Boomer, and Jasper. She loved to read, spend time with family and friends, enjoy a cold Ultra (she even had a custom Ultra cup), and savor a good fountain Dr Pepper.
Michele was compassionate, intelligent, endlessly loyal, beautiful, and so full of love to give. Her calming and steadfast presence will always be missed, and though we will always feel the grief her loss leaves behind, her imprint on the lives of those she loved will carry us through.
Michele is preceded in death by her beloved father, Jerry Smith, and her father-in-law, Jose Ovalle Jr.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Ovalle; her cherished children, Robbie and Aubrey Ovalle; her mother, Daniele Smith; her sister, Sherrie Smith; her mother-in-law, Heidi (Randy) Custard; her sister-in-law, Tina (Richard) Smith; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends, including her closest and most loyal friends, Amber Van Bevern, Troy Stehle, and Shannon Reilly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232. A Rosary will be recited at the funeral home that same evening at 7:00 p.m.
