Mina Ruth (Hayes) Prince was born August 26, 1930, in Houston, Texas, while living in Sugarland. Her parents were Luther B. Hayes, Sr. and Hester Leon (Chapman). She was the second of two children, Mina was close to her older brother, Luther “Benny” Hayes, Jr. She attended elementary and high school in Conroe, Texas and attended the Church of Christ. During this period, she met Charles Prince and his family. Upon high school graduation in 1947 she began attending various colleges in the area eventually ending up at Abilene Christian College (now Abilene Christian University) where she studied music and education. She and Charles were married in June of 1950 and a year later welcomed their first child, a son, Charles “Chuck,” Jr. They also both graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1951.
Over the next four decades, Mina taught in both public and private schools while raising Chuck and two daughters, Julie and Terri. As the wife of a preacher, she helped the family through numerous transitions when moving from state to state. She dedicated much of her life to the church where she was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and later worked in Oak Hills Church’s Bibleland as a greeter.
After her children were grown, she and Charles took to the mission field on several occasions, traveling around North and Central America and even to Africa. In 1991, she and Charles retired to San Antonio, Texas, to be close to their family. In their retirement, they took each of their grandchildren on extended vacations to spend more time getting to know each one better. They also participated in several Prince-Lipe family reunions.
Charles passed in April 2018, but Mina continued to be active in her church groups at Oak Hills Church until her passing on July 31, 2021. She is survived by son Charles Prince (Kathy), and daughters Julie Clem and Terri Prince; grandchildren Anna Bailey (Dennis), Christian Clem (Michelle), Stephanie Clem, Alessa Prince, Josie Prince (Elizabeth), Austin Clem (Mary Ellen), and Celia Prince; great-grandchildren John Bailey, Brooklyn Clem, Jackson Clem, Tanner Clem, and Paisley Clem; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring North.
