Modesto Lopez

Modesto López, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on February 12, 1950, in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, México, to Zeferino López and María (Juárez) López. Modesto’s young early life was characterized by being a strong father-figure to his younger siblings and working alongside his mother in the family fruit stand then eventually venturing out on his own career with a local company. Soon after he met, married and was a devoted husband to the love of his life for 48 years, Hortencia C. Lopez.

Together Modesto & Hortencia raised a family of five children. He was a devoted and loving father to Gonzalo Lara, Jr. (Edith), Veronica I. Pindell (Sam), Olga A. López (Doug Atkinson), Modesto C. López, and Yvette A. Hernandez (Steven). His role as a grandfather was so special to him and was manifested by the love and attention he bestowed to Amanda M. Scott, Gonzalo G. Lara, Kayla A. Diaz, Bryan A. Pindell, Marco A. Diaz, Samantha M. Pindell, Olivia R. Caltzontzint, Alyssa Hernandez, Gabriella Hernandez, Lileana Hernandez and Penelope, including seven great-grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Modesto found relaxation and joy in his many interests. He was an avid fisherman, there was no water he couldn’t catch something in, loved to play the accordion, enjoyed cooking BBQ, had a green thumb in the garden, and he loved to dance with his wife – almost always breaking in a dance floor. Along Modesto’s many pleasures in life was making sure his home had the most and sparkly Christmas lights every year, religiously cut the yard, and enjoyed his daily cup of coffee with his wife and anyone that would drop by to say hello.

Modesto was preceded in death by his siblings, Olga Alicia Mendoza, Porfirio López; grandchildren, Travis Aaron & Kevin Alan Pindell; brother-in-law, Alfonso Cabrera Sandoval; along with his mother-in-law Maria de Jesus Cabrera Sandoval.

Celebration of Life is scheduled for Saturday May 18, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Coker Methodist Church/La Cabana (2nd Floor Gibbs Building) 231 E. North Loop Rd, San Antonio, TX 78216.
