Molly Porter Burke

Molly Porter Burke was born on August 21, 1943 in Houston, Texas and after spending precious time with friends and family passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in San Antonio. A life-long resident of San Antonio, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lou Moore Porter and William Curren Porter; her uncle Rufus (Buddy) Porter of Dallas; her aunts and uncles, Alicia Porter Washam and Ross Washam also of Dallas and Frances and Ralph Porter of Denison. She attended Travis Elementary School and graduated from Saint Mary's Hall in 1961. She earned a B.A. in French and English from Southern Methodist University in 1965 and an M. Ed. in Counseling and Guidance from Trinity University in 1981. She taught English and French in the San Antonio Independent School District at Poe Middle School, Wheatley High School, Fox Tech High School, and Edison High School, where she taught for 14 years and was known as Mrs. Drolla. Molly was presented as a debutante by the San Antonio German Club in 1965 and as a Duchess in the Order of the Alamo's Court of Mysterious Worlds in Fiesta 1966. She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church, growing up at St. Mark's and as an adult at St. David's. She was a member of The Battle of Flowers Association, The Junior League of San Antonio, Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women, Mensa, San Antonio Republican Women, and The Petroleum Club. She served on the advisory boards of The Circle "T" Horseback Riding Center for the Handicapped which served children with both physical disabilities and mental illness, Project Any Baby Can, and The Miss Rodeo Texas Association. She was a volunteer for Last Chance Forever, Agape Ministry and Home Comforts for the Mentally Ill. She enjoyed the blessings of many longstanding friendships from her schooling and organizations throughout her lifetime. Molly was a devotee of conservation, horseback riding, fishing, birdwatching, and history. Her favorite place to be was at the Texas coast near Port Aransas or Rockport, where she spent many happy times in the family vacation home. She was also a published author of numerous poems and articles. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Jennifer Porter Delmer; son-in-law, Jonathan Wade Delmer; and beloved cousins, Tom Porter of Denison, Rusty Porter Washam, Jerry Porter Washam and wife Mary, all of Dallas, Texas. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to her caregivers Quenette, Love, and Yahna as well as Marissa and Gilbert and the team at Holy Savior Hospice for their compassion during her last few months and to Amalia for helping her for many years. Thank you also to Dr. James R. Redmond whose thoughtfulness and concern extended far beyond his professional medical role. Honorary Pallbearers are: Jonathan W. Delmer, Charles H.
