There is so much to say about Mona and her life and in this brief accolade to her we would simply like to report some of her many accomplishments, both as a businesswoman and as a human being.
Mona was one of the first graduates at UTSA after attending Incarnate Word High School. She excelled in all subjects, but what was most enamored with literature. Once graduating high school, she set out into the world. First to California where she was heavily involved in the music and art scene managing new wave bands. Mona then went to New York continuing her dedication to the arts by founding Circle Arts, Inc. with her friends and gained valuable corporate experience working at Solomon Brothers in Manhattan.
Upon returning to San Antonio, she became actively involved with several developers in San Antonio learning the trade and accelerating in all aspects. She began working at Trammell Crow and quickly proved herself to be an asset to the company. Collaborating with a team of three other men she was instrumental in developing and building the Alamo Quarry Shopping Center. She retired from that firm to spend more time with her son and stepdaughters, and once again excelled as a loving mother and mentor.
She was approached by Reata, a development and property management firm and was asked to join as a partner. She assumed the position of CEO of Reata Real Estate Property Management and grew the business into one of the largest and most successful management companies in San Antonio. She briefly retired, but then returned to work with her partner and friend Barbara co-founding Minerva Group Consultancy and became consulting experts in the management of the real estate for CPS working for 15 years ably and professionally running the management and liquidation of certain properties. For her accomplishments in Commercial Real Estate, she was highlighted twice in Forbes magazine.
Throughout all this Mona maintained an interest and played an active role in the arts and was a charter member of several cultural groups such as Chalk It Up, Luminarias, and the Mind Science foundation. Her aim was always to promote community and cultural initiatives for the good of the entire community, she loved life!
Mike Maloney had the privilege of marrying Mona and living many happy and fulfilling years with her. Her natural kindness, joy in life and almost unlimited spirit to love and cherish grandchildren, adopted sisters, and scores of many close and loving friends.
Mona was diagnosed with cancer, nearly one year ago and went through a valiant and dignified struggle to ward off and survive the disease. She maintained an indomitable, positive spirit to the very end.
