

Moses Daniel Ferguson, a proud World War II veteran and a man deeply loved by all who knew him, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, at the age of 100.
He served his country with honor and carried those values of strength, humility, and integrity throughout his life. Though he experienced the hardships of war, he often shared those moments through vivid and captivating stories that reflected not only history, but his strength and perspective on life.
Known for his tranquil nature, generous heart and wonderful sense of humor, Dan had a way of making everyone feel valued and had the ability to bring joy and comfort to everyone around him. One of his favorite sayings, “I’m going to keep you on the first team,” became his signature expression of encouragement and affection, a phrase that perfectly captured how he made others feel: chosen, appreciated, and important.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Jane R. Ferguson, with whom he shared three children, Dorothea Elizabeth Pierce, Mark Alan Ferguson (June Marie Ferguson), Joan Magdalene Peeples and his grandchildren Jeremiah Taylor Ferguson, Michael Richard Aguirre and Brandon Travis Bolling (Sabrina Bolling).
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Cortazar Ferguson, who cared for him with deep love, a devoted spirit and protected him until his final moments. He is also remembered by his stepchildren and grandchildren who embraced him as their own and loved him deeply.
To all of them, he was a source of strength and unconditional love.
Dan leaves behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, generosity, humor, and a life rich with stories that will continue to be told for generations. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
Viewing will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218, US, on May 11, 2026, from 9:00 am to 10:50 am.
A Funeral Mass will follow at Our Lady of Grace Church, 223 E Summit Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212, US, on May 11, 2026, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Military Honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, US, on May 11, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
