Father Krieger played an important role in my family during his service with Air Force. He remains in my prayers and heart.

I hope the Family can tell me if this is the same Father Krieger I served with at Rhein Main AFB Germany(1968 and 1969) . If it is the same great man I would like to give my testimony on how he changed my life and helped me grow up !

MSGR. WILFRED KRIEGER, known to many of us who grew up in Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in South St. Louis City as "Father Willy Krieger," will be remembered fondly by a lot of us. He was a dynamic priest and military chaplain, and many of us knew he carried that spiritually-inspired dynamism into every assignment that he had. A lot of us from "the old neighborhood" will have Masses read for him at Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Gabriel's, and Historic St. Mary of Victories Church in St. Louis.

I have such wonderful memories of Fr. Will. My mother, Ria Johnson,lived across the street from him on Putting Green for several years. She would bring my stepdad a stroke victim home on the weekends and Fr. Will became a regular visitor. Unfortunately, he was also called whenever Mom would "drop" Joe and needed help getting him back into the wheelchair or bed. Through his influence Mom returned to the church after many years absence. When she moved to a nursing home he would bring her Communion and was even there to give her Last Rites before her death. I teach in a Catholic school in Houston and my students and I have been praying for Fr. Will and all of your family. I will be eternally grateful for all he did for my Mom in her last years.

I'll miss Fr Krieger's funny anecdotes during Sunday masses. The masses may have run a few minutes longer than usual but it was never a nuisance - Fr Krieger made it fun. I don't know the condition that took his soul to his Heavenly Father, but at least he's at peace. God Bless all in his family. Peace be with you. A grateful parishioner,

Wil Krieger occupied a very special place in my heart. He was probably the closest thing to a dad that I ever had and my heart aches with the pain of knowing that he will no longer be there to welcome us into his home. I will miss his gentle ways, his great smile, and his realistic approach to life and the ministerial priesthood. Probably one of the most celebrated days of my life was the day that he found out that I knew something of computers and asked me to come by his place and help him with a slight problem he was having with his printer. It seems that after composing a letter on his Macintosh he used only the best! he had tried to print -- by punching the PRINT key about 112 times!! By the time I had figured out what the problem was -- he would never admit to punching the key so many times -- he was so impressed with the little that I had done that he offered to teach me how to play golf if I would agree to teach him how to use the computer. That was the most fortuitous day of my life. I was not only fortunate enough to be taught by one of the finest golfers in the area, but he also introduced me to a very special way of life; one of great camaraderie. We spent some wonderful days on some of the best courses in San Antonio and surrounds and he even lent me an entire set of clubs to use. Towards the time when I was preparing to leave San Antonio to study for my doctorate in theology at Berkeley, I talked to him about giving him his clubs back and he told me, in his quiet Kriegeresque way he had, "You should know by now that those clubs were for you all the time." How can you not love someone like that? Some of the fondest memories I cherish of my diaconal experience at St. Helena's was assisting at mass with him. He was genuinely devout and faithfilled priest, and his love for Jesus in the Eucharist was profound. However, I can honestly say that probably the most memorable mass for me personally was the one we celebrated at his home he always kept a supply of hosts and wine on hand and we did it sitting down! I guess if you want to be authentic it doesn't get better than that! One last story. We had met at his club Northern Hills so that he could coach me on my golf swing and also so that I could practice putting and chipping. He was a meticulous, yet very patient instructor. I know what you're going to say -- Father Wil was not always very patient. But he was patient with me! Maybe it was because he needed me to be patient with him and his computer skills. He once confided that he could not understand how a compute could be so difficult to use while a typewriter was so much easier! Anyway, he was having me take some chip shots into a bucket from about 30 yards out. I was getting close but I couldn't quite make the bucket. So then I asked him, "Is the idea for me to put this ball into that little bucket?" and he say, "Yes." "Well," I said, " I can't do it, it's almost impossible." So then he says, "Let me try" and bingo, he hits a perfect arc and chips from 30 yards right into the bucket, just like that. He was 76 or77 years old at the time. A year later, he invited me to play with him on a foursome. In a tournament, for God's sake! I told him that I was not yet ready to play in a tournament and he said, nonsense, of course you are. I agreed and the day came and I was so nervous that I played terribly. He told me that he was surprised since I had done so well at the practice tees. I knew that he was a little disappointed, but he never said a discouraging word; that's the kind of guy he was. The 17th hole was about 530 yards. I got to just outside the green in 2 strokes and, thanks be to God and this wonderful gentleman who will always be in my heart, my life, and my ministry, I chipped the ball from 30 yards away right into the hole. He looked at me and just smiled. That great Krieger smile. Thanks, Wil, for the gift of fatherly love that you were to me. Joseph

I had the pleasure and honor of serving Father Krieger as his Parish Counsel President and master of ceremonies at his retirement dinner during his last assignment in the Air Force as Installation Chaplin at Randolph AFB in 1982. In May 2003, Father Krieger honored our family by cutting through much red tape and baptizing our youngest grandson who, shortly after his birth in Brazil, was transferred with his parents to Jakarta, Indonesia.

A fine Chaplain who left his mark of committed service in both Civilian and Air Force Ministry,

Monsignor Krieger was the very first Air Force priest I knew as a young airman - back in 1964! He was a true gentleman. May his memory be eternal

As a young Chaplain I always respected Chaplain Krieger and the pastoral presence he always brought into a space. I still use the ecumenical calendar he created and it continues to be a valuable tool of ministry. God has blessed and enriched each of us by his life journey with us.

We have been blessed through the years by the creativity, good humour and grace of Wil Krieger. He was a great priest, chaplain and friend.

We have fond memories of Fr. Kreiger when he was our Chaplain at Chanute AFB, Rantoul, Ill. We did get to see him a couple of times in this area. We did send his obituary to Cletus and Don Hicks who were more personal friends than we were and did keep in contact with him. He will be missed.

It was so wonderful to serve with Wil when he was Wing chaplain at Randolph AFB during a very trying time. He was a mentor and an inspiration. May God take him to his bosom, and may those he leaves behind know that my prayers and thoughts are with them at this time.

Msgr. Krieger was a loving and caring person. I was fortunate to have known this God-loving man. May God bless his soul.

I remember meeting Father Wil at Wright-Patterson AFB when he served at noon Mass, in the late 70's. On Fridays, he used to come into the WPAFB O'Club after playing golf and I would tease him about being incognito! When my late husband, Paul, and I moved to SA in l985 and joined St Helena's, we were surprised and elated to meet up with him again. He was an inspirational speaker and wonderful person. After Paul died in 1993, he'd always asked if I had found a husband and I'd say, "No, because you probably forgot to pray for this young widow." He would just laught and pat me on the shoulder, except I would insist on a hug! Widows never get enough hugs! I will dearly miss his down to earth homilies, his sweet smile, his hugs and his advice. My most heartfelt condolences to his family.

Father Wil's laughter, optimism, hope and love is woven into the threads that bind our memories and family together. We shall miss him.

I grew up in St. Helenas parish. I served masses with father Krieger many times as a child and he was always someone I looked up to. A kind and wise man. He always delivered a great message of love, peace, and forgiveness. A great man of God will be missed.
