Myrtle Dozer Riley, age 85, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully at home with family on Friday, September 26, 2014 after battling lung cancer.
Born Myrtle Mae Dozer on February 23, 1929 to the late Raleigh L. Dozer and Emily Speer Dozer of San Antonio. A 1946 graduate of Alamo Heights High School, Myrtle received a degree from Trinity University in 1950 before beginning her teaching career at San Antonio's Burbank High School, where she taught for 33 years, retiring in 1984. Myrtle met Earl Vaughn Riley while they were both teaching at Burbank High School and, after a short courtship, were married in San Antonio on August 22, 1968.
As anyone who knew her can attest, Myrtle was tirelessly devoted to her husband, parents, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, church, friends and country. A lifelong resident of San Antonio, Myrtle loved seeing her city grow and flourish, was happy to tour any visitor around the city, and was a devoted fan of her beloved Spurs. She was especially thankful to her Burbank High School colleagues for their friendship and support over the many years. The impact that she had on those around her cannot be exaggerated; her love and devotion strengthened us all. She will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Vaughn Riley, daughter Rita Lockett and Grandson William Lockett.
She is survived by son Earl W. Riley and wife Mary of San Antonio, TX, grandson Brett Riley and wife Michelle and great-granddaughter Emerson of Denver, CO; grandson Brian Riley and wife Catherine and great-grandchildren Grace and Eamon of Fairview Heights, IL; grandson Daniel Riley of St Louis, IL; daughter Cheryl Stockton and husband Charles of Hot Springs Village, AR; granddaughter Cheri Wheeler and husband Rick and great-granddaughter Rylynn of Hot Springs Village, AR; grandson Chad R.
