Nancy Ann Baize was born in Junction City, Kansas on October 11, 1950, to Maurice and Marguerite Meseke, the fifth of seven children. She was called home by the Lord on July 20, 2022, at the age of 71.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Marguerite Meseke, sisters, Sue Days and Mary Budden, and brother, Mark Meseke.
Nancy is survived by her three children, Jennifer Porterfield (John), Stephanie Baize (Juan Gonzalez), and Brandon Baize (Vivian).
Her ten beloved grandchildren knew her as “Nan,” “The Nan,” and “Nanny.” She is survived by Jordan Porterfield, Karissa Porterfield, Jonathan Gonzalez, Jack Rubalcaba, Amari Pena, Avari Pena, Alice Pena, William Morgan, and Dylan Morgan, brothers Ben Meseke (Clara), Bob Meseke, and Fred Meseke (Sheila), and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Nancy was a devoted stay-at-home mom until her children graduated from high school. In 1998 she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from the University of the Incarnate Word. She volunteered and worked at St. Brigid’s Catholic Church and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She dedicated sixteen years to the community of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where she served as a Children’s Liturgist and Faith Formation Coordinator. Through the church, she met many friends who became family to her over the years. She will be remembered for her dedication to the children of Our Lady of Guadalupe, especially for her creative approach to Vacation Bible School each summer.
If you had the opportunity to know Nancy, you would find her to be a kind, generous, and a selfless woman. She was a great listener, she devoted her time to helping others, and she always tried to find the positive in any situation. In 2019, Nancy was diagnosed with cancer and faced this challenge head on with resilience and a tenacious attitude. She spent the last several years keeping family traditions, spending time laughing with her family, and celebrating life.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Donation may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (www.jdrf.org). Nancy was a Type-1 Diabetic and hoped for a cure to this auto-immune disease for herself, her nephew Brad, and her grandson Jack.
