She was born in San Antonio, Texas on November 6th, 1953 to Joe Robert and Carmen Yanes Escobedo.
She is preceded in death by her three brothers, Joe, Louis and Oscar. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Arturo G. Perez; daughter Amanda Perez Kemp (Markus); grandson Matthew Kemp; sister Anna Maria Villarreal (Lupe); sister Mary Helen Puente (Raul); and numerous extended relatives and friends.
Nancy married at a young age and had a love story like no other. When the family thinks of the perfect marriage, Nancy and Arturo’s marriage is the first couple that comes to mind. They adored each other. Their marriage was a true blessing; a perfect match. After getting married, Nancy spent her early 20s working at Levi Strauss, at O’Krent, and at Dillard’s before taking an early retirement in her 30s to devote her time to motherhood. Prior to motherhood, though, she would go back to school and achieve her G.E.D., which was a prideful event for her and her family. She would later return to the workforce when baby Amanda started school, with one condition -- and that was that she work at the same school district Amanda attended. She would continue employment with the South San Antonio Independent School District until the late ‘90s when she retired once again. This time her retirement was to become not only a “stay-at-home” mother once more, but her utmost favorite job: a stay-at-home grandmother. She didn’t have to say it because it was understood: Matthew was her ultimate accomplishment. She was the most happiest when spending time with him.
Nancy had a love for travel. She never met a trip she didn’t love, from Big Bend to Honolulu; from the west coast to the east coast. Her daughter Amanda received the blessing of her mom’s love for adventures. Once Amanda was born, they especially loved their many trips to Disney World, Disneyland, the Grand Canyon, Telluride, San Francisco, Las Vegas to name a few. In addition to her travels, she so very much enjoyed the water (any ocean or lake), fishing, and camping. She would break out her favorite Tejano and oldies music and could sit and listen for hours. Nancy’s love for her music, family barbeques, good food, and all of her many beloved pets throughout her life (from Dani to Coco) brought her immense joy. She deeply loved all her fur babies. Anyone who knew Nancy knows that if she had to choose from any pastime hobby, that would be gambling with her sister Anna. These two ladies were unstoppable and inseparable. Nancy and Anna never met a casino they didn’t absolutely love. Winning or losing didn’t make a huge impact to their casino travels. As long as they could go, they were happy. Definitely their happy place!
Nancy and Arturo made the most of their retirement. They enjoyed the comfort of their home in San Antonio and their home away from home in Boerne. They beamed with pride over Matthew and his baseball accomplishments. This pride and love lives on.
