Nancy Beldon Sherman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the age of 71. Nancy was born in Denver, Colorado, and moved to San Antonio with her family at the age of 3. She graduated from Alamo Heights High School before setting off for Oklahoma University, where she met the love of her life, Stephen Sherman. The couple returned to San Antonio a few years later where they started their family. Nancy's life revolved around her four children and seven grandchildren. She was actively involved in PTA at Colonial Hills Elementary School and Jackson Middle School, and served as President of NEISD PTA for several years, amassing more than 10 thousand volunteer hours. She was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National PTA and from Women's American ORT. From her teen years until her children graduated high school, Nancy worked at the family business, Beldon Roofing. For many years, she and Steve also owned and operated a sporting goods chain with locations in several states. Nancy's love of square dancing and exhibition ballroom dancing took the couple as far away as Spain, and helped them make friends with people from all walks of life and corners of the world. But, her greatest joy was spending time and traveling with her family. Her beautiful smile and warm heart will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her daughter Shari Sherman, parents Morris and Ann Beldon, and parents-in-law Dr. Louis and Ruth Cohen. Nancy is survived by her husband, Stephen Sherman; her children Lisa and Martin Perkins, Fred Sherman, and Mardi and Joe Smith; her grandchildren Matthew, Morgan and Layne Perkins; Lindsay, Casie, Cory and Blake Smith; sister Eleanor Komet and Dean Lewis; brother Mike and Louise Beldon; sister-in-law Suzie and Ray Somberg; brother-in-law Marty Sophir; and numerous nieces and nephews.
