Buddy, known to his friends and “Pops” to his family, was born in Graham, Texas, to Gladys and Nathan Webb Sr. He grew up in Albany, Texas, where he took great pride in his family’s heritage, their participation in the Fandangle, and his deep love for West Texas. He graduated from Albany High, where he was involved in sports and the occasional mischief. He played football at Cisco Junior College, joined the U.S. Army—serving honorably—met and married the love of his life, Virginia Brooks, and later attended TCU. His time in the service had a profound impact on him; he never met a serviceman he didn’t thank and often bought them a meal. He loved his country and prayed daily for its healing.
A man of deep faith and dedication to his community, Buddy led a successful career in sales and manufacturing. In later years, he became a trusted expert in managing the family’s mineral rights and ranch. He served as Mayor Pro Tem in Saginaw and was an active Chamber of Commerce member, always striving to uplift those around him. His final role fulfilled a lifelong dream—becoming a ranch owner. He cherished their ranch home in Mountain Home, Texas, where he took great pride in family gatherings and caring for the land and wildlife.
Buddy’s commitment to service extended to organizations such as Coaches Outreach and multiple cancer survivor groups, where he provided unwavering prayer, support, and encouragement. A proud 30-year cancer survivor, he turned his experience into mentorship and ministry, offering hope to many. He was a devoted co-founder and member of the Godly Grillers at Community Bible Church (CBC), serving meals to San Antonio first responders, military personnel, and the local community. He also took great joy in serving his church, leading fellowship as an enthusiastic greeter, men’s group table leader and marriage class leader alongside Virginia. His leadership and volunteer work earned him the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award at CBC.
Beyond his professional and civic contributions, Buddy was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, both as a participant and spectator. He competed in tennis, ran marathons, and enjoyed hunting and fishing around the world.
Above all, Pops was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan, rarely missing a game, recital, or cheer competition. His kindness, dedication, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched. For those who had the privilege of praying with Pops, we will always remember his remarkable prayers—for his family, friends, rain, and our beautiful country.
Pops is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Brooks Webb; his three children, Virginia May Essex (Phil), Nathan D. Webb III (Jennifer), and Brandon Brooks Webb (Sybil); and eight grandchildren, Bailee Elizabeth Rowan (Chaz), Avery Nicole, Camryn Aubrey, Nathan D. Webb IV, Gage Brooks, Brandon Brooks, Townes Matthews, and Celia Faith. He is also survived by his brother, Sam Webb (Nancy) of Honolulu, and their family. Pops was deeply loved by his extended family, including his many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins, who cherished his wisdom, kindness, and humor. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Martha May.
