Nathaniel Samuel Muñoz passed away on January 9, 2021. He is survived by his loving wife, Alexis Muñoz, his mother Michelle Gimbel (John Gutierrez), father Samuel Muñoz (Eva Muñoz), half- siblings Samson and Joshua, and step-siblings Cody and Daniella.
Nathaniel was born on July 14, 1991 in Baytown, TX and was raised in San Antonio. Growing up, he was known for the immense love he received as an “only child”, something he let no one forget. He was always ready for new adventures, never turning down an opportunity to learn something new. Nate graduated from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi in 2015 earning his bachelor's degree in kinesiology. There wasn't a sport he couldn't play or a team he wasn’t a part of. Even from a young age Nathaniel always valued his friendship with others. This was proven true through his relationships with childhood friends, TAMUCC college family, and BR Coffee Company work family. Later in his life he gained his spiritual brotherhood. His relationship with God was one of Nathaniel's greatest treasures in life. He proved a true and lasting friend to everyone he knew.
When Nathaniel set out to accomplish something, he put his whole heart into it. This proved to be no different when he began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Nate put his whole heart into learning about God’s promises and building a relationship with his heavenly father, Jehovah. On April 22, 2018, Nathaniel was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and dedicated his life to living up to that name. Throughout the remainder of his life, Nate took pride in putting his worship first. He loved sharing bible truths with anyone who needed comfort, specifically sharing scriptures that comforted him in his circumstances. Those who cared for him were always moved by his positive attitude, which he always attributed to his strong faith and hope.
Anyone who knew Nathaniel, knew how in love he was with Alexis. He constantly made her laugh when no one else could, and got her to try new things like fishing and being outdoors. Nathaniel and Alexis were married on June 1, 2019, and had been inseparable ever since. With their time together you could count on the fact they were spending time with family or at their favorite lake kayaking. Throughout their marriage they served their God, Jehovah faithfully.
Nathaniel battled cancer for two and a half years; that which he never let define him. From the beginning, he chose to LIVE. Live to enjoy each day. Live to create beautiful memories. Live with hope. And LIVE we did. He never let the tough days outweigh the good. Nate bravely applied Hebrews 6:19, and kept his “hope as an anchor”. But Nathaniel knew he never fought alone. After completing treatments, he would often say things like, “Most of all praise goes to our God, Jehovah. He has held my hand and pulled me through everything.”
Nathaniel was not afraid of what his future held, he believed he would see his beloved family again very soon. He never lost faith in the Bible's promise at John 11:25, where Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life…” Nate lived up to the name son, friend and husband, and will be deeply missed. Nathaniel has “fought the fine fight” and “run the race to the finish”. (2 Timothy 4:7)
