

Nettie Brooks passed into the loving arms of her lord and savior, Jesus Christ, April 6th 2010, she was 93years young. Nettie was born in Pasche, Texas in Concho County on March 13th 1917, there Nettie married R.L. Brooks in 1934 and they had one son J.R. (Reggie) and moved to San Antonio in 1942. A pioneer business woman in San Antonio, Nettie Brooks opened Nettie Brooks’ Young Folks, a children’s clothing boutique, in 1953 in Dellview Village on Vance Jackson Rd. A few years later in 1957 with the help of her son, Reggie Brooks, she opened her second store in North Towne Plaza on San Pedro Ave. In 1960, together they opened their third store in Wonderland Mall and in 1968, the fourth store in Central Park Mall, successfully dressing more than four generations of San Antonio’s future leaders with impeccable taste and style. The last store in Central Park Mall closed in 1986 and since then, Nettie had been enjoying her grand kids and great grand kids and was very involved in many activities at Trinity Baptist Church.
One of her favorite activities with Trinity Baptist Church was ministering to the children at Trinity and the Alazan Courts with the Saturday morning children programs as well as vacation bible school in the summers.
As a business woman she participated in several organizations and was a member of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce greeting committee when Tom Frost II was President of the Chamber…welcoming such luminaries as Beverly Sills and Princess Grace to San Antonio.
Nettie traveled the world and on one trip she took bibles to Russia to distribute, when Russia was a communist country. Her favorite place to visit was Israel.
Nettie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Nettie Brooks is preceded by her husband, R.L. Brooks and is survived by her son, J.R. (Reggie) Brooks his wife Genevieve and their children Dawn Brooks, Steve Brooks and his wife Cindy and their children Carter and Emily, Lisa Brooks, Jim Brooks and his wife Diane and their children Ryan and his wife Mika, Justin, Jenna and Andy, Tamara Brooks Schoenfeld and her husband Chuck and their children Marshall and his wife Rachael, Phillip and his wife Courtney and Jessica.
Pallbearers are Marshall Mayland, Ryan Brooks, Phillip Schoenfeld, Justin Brooks, Carter Brooks, and Andy Brooks.
Nettie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Nettie’s family would like to thank Diane and Ron Dygert and the staff at Golden Casa Assisted Living Home for their gentle love and care.
