Nicholas Jason VanValkenburg

Nicholas “Nick” Jason VanValkenburg, age 37, passed away on August 14, 2021. He was very active and had diverse interests. He served his country as a Lance Corporal and Combat Engineer in the United States Marine Corp 1st Marine Division serving in Afghanistan. He was active in Football and in Scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and he was inducted into the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of the Lipan Indian Nation where he enjoyed Native American Ceremonial Dancing. Nick had a big heart for animals, fostering many. Nick was a beloved son, brother, grandson, and uncle who will be deeply missed.

Nick was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Roman Gabriel Soto, and Robert E. VanValkenburg, and his grandmother, Carol J. VanValkenburg. He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Rosemary VanValkenburg; his sister Andrea Rose Kovach, his grandmother, Anita D. Soto; his nieces, Isabella Rose, Lilliana Ruth; and his nephew, Aleksander. To the end, he was a caregiver to his special pets, Gizmo and Luna.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 31st from 6-9 pm at the Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Wounded Warriors.
