

She was a lifetime activist in the LGBTQI community, founding member of several LGBTQI organizations, most significantly Dignity San Antonio, a LGBTQI Catholic Organization. She was a Passionate trail blazer in the LGBTQI community committed to the wholeness and holiness of LGBTQI people and worked tirelessly to create a sense of belonging for her community.
She was a graduate of San Antonio Vocational and Technical High School with an interest in art and graphic design. She found a way to express her interest and talent as an artist as a picture framer.
She loved the outdoors, especially the Big Bend of Texas, reading, good conversation and Sunday morning breakfast with friends.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 10, 1940 to Guadalupe Zapata Valdez and Refugio Ortiz. She is preceded in death by her father, Guadalupe Valdez, Godmother Aunt Petra Valdez and son Robert Nicklaus Valdez Minor. She is survived by her loving spouse, best friend and soulmate of 35 years, Deborah(Deb) Myers; daughter by love , Dee Beckwith; brothers, Andrew, Rudy(Gloria), Carlos, Richard(Tina), Tim and Roy; and sisters, Rosemary(John) Fowler and Leticia; numerous nieces and nephews and so many beloved friends .
Deb is grateful for the love, care and support of so many in caring for Nickie throughout her illness, we could not have done it without you.
