Norma Sue Scott entered her eternal home on the afternoon of September 9, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Her husband and two daughters were by her side, singing “Amazing Grace.” Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is with God, and at peace in the splendor of heaven.
Sue was born in 1936 to Andy and Zora Rowlett of Regency, Texas. She attended school in Mullin and earned her teaching degree at Howard Payne University in Brownwood. After graduating and working for the local school system, she decided to further her education. So she moved to Austin, Texas and attended the University of Texas, earning her Master’s Degree in Social Work. There she met Franklin James Scott, and they married on June 2, 1963.
Twin daughters, Pamela and Laura, were born two years later. The years following were busy as she raised her girls and made a positive impact on countless children as a reading teacher for various grades. Sue always set up a comfortable and loving home for the family as they moved to Oklahoma, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Mississippi, Kentucky, back to Texas, and then Belen, New Mexico after Pam and Laura left home.
In 2004, Sue and Frank retired to San Antonio, Texas so they could be close to their daughters and four grandchildren. That was the best gift she could have given them. It was a cherished blessing that her grandchildren were able to spend so much time with Sue, even after her mobility became limited. Her spirit remained cheerful, and her laughter came easily. She has left a legacy of dedicated prayer for family and friends, and generosity, giving both to charities and to loved ones. She loved to connect with friends and family through phone calls and especially her beautifully crafted cards of encouragement. Her wisdom and practicality made her an unforgettable woman who will be missed by many.
Sue walked with God throughout her life and dedicated herself to the church for many, many years. She and Frank were members of Alamo Heights Baptist Church where they attended regularly in addition to teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Sue is preceded in death by her father, Andy Rowlett; her mother, Zora Rowlett; and her brother, Ross Rowlett.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Scott; daughters Pamela Young and Laura Hunter; grandchildren, Natalie Young, Cliff Young, Scott Hunter, and Jessica Hunter, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
There will be a family graveside celebration of Sue’s life in Regency, Texas, at a later date.
"Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."Isaiah 41:10
