

While serving in the United States Army as a military police officer, he received the National Defense Service Medal as a marksman. After serving in the military he owned a successful underground utility contracting business in San Antonio. He was a proud descendent of a Texas Ranger, and was a patriotic man whose love for his country, family and friends was evident in everything he did. Norm was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ora Cavaness and brother Larry.
Norman is survived by his wife Helen Cavaness, daughter Casey McDougall and son-in-law Trey; stepsons Ryan Carlson, Jon Carlson and Evan Bliss; stepdaughter Heather Holt; brothers Cliff Cavaness, Rick Cavaness and wife Karen; sisters Debbie Boultinghouse and husband Alvin, Darlene Piel, Cindy Eaton and husband Dennis, Sandra Williams and husband Duane, grandchildren Makayla McDougall, Tyler McDougall, Ashton Holt, and Myson Kerns along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 27, 2015 at Oak Hills Church 19595 IH 10 West, San Antonio at 6 p.m., interment to be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Cavaness Cemetery in Mason, Texas at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to Veterans of Foreign Wars or the Wounded Warrior Project.
