

He was born and raised in San Antonio, the son of John Leslie Harwell and Orma King Harwell. Norman was a graduate of Fox Tech High School and served in the US Navy, Aviation 1st Class on the South Dakota Battleship; he was awarded two air medals with an honorable discharge.
An avid entrepreneur with a life-long pursuit in general contracting, he was a member of the San Antonio Builders Exchange, Association of General Contractors, the Lions Club, President and Board Member of Club Giraud, a former Board Member of Main Bank and Interfirst Bank, President and CEO of George C. Vaughan and Sons, Inc., President Harwell & Harwell, Inc., Norman Harwell & Associates, Inc., owner of Lone Star Ice House and Food Stores, Inc., was a part owner of the Spurs, an accomplished pilot, was a member of Blue Lodge Mason 1065, Scottish Rite Mason, Alzaphan Temple Shriner, Past Director, as well as serving as Chairman-National Directors Association of Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years and the love of his life, Marian Olivia Harwell, parents John and Orma Harwell and his sister, Lora King Struhs. He is survived by his children: Sharon Hull of Horseshoe Bay, Wayne Harwell and wife Cynthia of San Antonio, Michelle Williams and husband Fred of Austin, Yvonne Sepeda; grandchildren: Lyndell Sippel of Albuquerque, NM; Ashley Kanok of Austin, TX; Brian Harwell of San Antonio, Brooke Whittenburg of San Antonio, Cameron Somers and Aaron Somers of Austin, Cristen Galvan of San Antonio; great-grandchildren: Lauren Garza, Chelsea Garza, Meredith Sippel, Hudson Kanok and Daniel Whittenburg.
Norman was a hard worker who consistently inspired all those around him with loyalty, commitment, generosity and dignity. He was a warm and giving man who loved his family and friends.
The family expresses their appreciation for the love of family and friends that gave him a strong will throughout especially his caretakers Dr. Chris Kopecky, and the staff of Personal Care Management especially, Brenda Jay, RN, Lupe Leal, RN, Delores Melgarejo, Patti Rangel, Leticia Briones, Peggy Landgrave, and Olivia Perez.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 21st from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Porter Loring on McCullough.
