He was born on September 14,1939 in New Orleans, LA to Numa R. Laiche, Sr. and Rita Dupont. He attended Cathedral School in Lafayette, LA and was a star football player. One of his early jobs was as a football coach at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. A proud Vietnam veteran he served as a medic with the Army Airborne Division. As a manager for the Cygna Healthcare group he lived in several states during his career.
He was kind, loving and generous with his knowledge and time as a scholar of American History, a hunter, fisherman and horseman. He took part in reenactments, was a guide at the Alamo, and was involved with the Institute of Texan Cultures.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife of 62 years Helois LeBlanc, his daughter, Helen Mary Hayes and his brother Pierre Louis Laiche. He is survived by his nephew, Darrell Laiche and his wife Kristie, his sister-in-law Barrie LeBlanc and a host of first cousins.
He was proud to be a member of the large Laiche family. His father Numa was one of 16 children. So many of his cousins loved trading stories of our special family.
Most importantly he loved his Catholic faith and often went to daily mass and the adoration chapel. He encouraged us through his words and actions.
He and Helois earned the designation of “Master Gardener” and with the help of his neighbors they had quite a garden in their backyard. Being active in community service, he gave advice on the weekly radio show and in many publications.
They found a home and extended family in San Antonio, TX. It was a close-knit neighborhood, and they all cared for and shared with each other. The family so appreciates the care they gave to Numa in his sickness in these last few months especially the Lutz family and Shelly Padron.
