Odette de la Garza Puente, a beacon of unwavering faith and boundless love, completed her earthly journey on August 3, 2025. Born on April 17, 1973, in San Antonio, Texas, she was a cherished daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who filled every room with joy and warmth.
Odette's life was a testament to the power of love and dedication. She was the beloved daughter of the late Juan de la Garza Jr. and Ofelia Juarez de la Garza, and a nurturing sister to Oribel, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond, along with her brother-in-law, John Gilbert, nephew, Zechariah Jontez, nieces, Amoriah Maive and Alizaneth Grace Rocha. Her legacy continues through her adoring children, Viveanne Amarinda Puente Dowers, Isaiah Alexandre Puente, Izaak Anthony Puente, Victoria Alayne Puente, and lan Austen Puente, whose lives she enriched with her boundless compassion. As a grandmother, Odette's heart swelled with pride for Zyrah Kenzie Dowers, Lylah Marie Dowers, and soon-to-be born, Aliyah Odette Capri Dowers, her treasured granddaughters who were the sparkle in her eyes.
Odette's educational journey was marked by her creative spirit and determination. She graduated from Northside Health Careers High School in 1991 and later pursued her studies of Arts in Fashion Design from both Palo Alto College and Baylor University. Her 30-year work career reflected her meticulous nature and passion for organization, as she excelled as a Logistics Coordinator at Cross Country Truck Brokerage, Inc., Mother Parkers Tea & Coffee, Inc., and a Freight Analyst at Elston Nationwide Carriers and DFW National.
Odette lived her faith through action in serving with a selfless heart at United by Grace Baptist Church (Seacroft Baptist Church). Her interests were as diverse as her talents, from spending treasured moments with family and friends to playing with her granddaughters. Odette embraced life's simple joys. She was an avid reader of Jane Austen books, found solace in music of all genres, and expressed her creativity through singing, fashion design, and stamping. Her joy of collecting Hello Kitty, Coca Cola, and miniature treasures filled her space with joyful reminders of her playful spirit.
Odette's adventurous soul led her to consider herself a racecar driver at heart, while her love for God's creation shone through, as she watched with fascination the appearance of a full moon and mesmerizing sunsets. Her passion for the San Antonio Spurs and binge-watching Netflix series reflected her ability to find happiness in both the thrilling and the tranquil moments of life.
In remembering Odette, we recall the words of Helen Keller: "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Odette embodied this sentiment, touching the hearts of all who knew her with her loving, faith-filled, and selfless nature.
As we bid farewell to Odette de la Garza Puente, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace, a life that inspired and uplifted, and a journey that, although complete on this earth, continues in the legacy of love she leaves behind. May her memory be a guiding light to all, reminding us that the essence of our being is not in the material, but in the love and kindness we share with the world.
The family will receive guests for visitation at Porter Loring Mortuary – West, 1710 West Loop 1604 North, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow.
