Olga Christine Larrumbide, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Friday, September 26, 2025 at the age of 74. Olga was born to Ralph and Sadie Rodriguez in San Antonio, Texas on March 30, 1951. She was the youngest of four, with sisters Gloria Zamora, Alice Moran, and Elizabeth Torres.
She was a graduate of Providence High School and received her Bachelor of Education at Our Lady of the Lake University. She began her teaching career in the Edgewood Independent School District, teaching at the elementary school level. A few short years after that, Olga earned a Master of Education from Our Lady of the Lake University and began teaching Special Education students in the Northeast Independent School District. Olga’s life was dedicated to the education of students with special needs at Olmos Elementary, Camelot Elementary, and Encino Park Elementary Schools. Parents for the children were very grateful for her tremendous effort and hard work in advancing their child’s knowledge and life skills during the school year.
Although Olga devoted 33 years to bilingual and special education, her greatest devotion was to her family. After a previous marriage was annulled by the Church, she married Richard Manuel Larrumbide at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on August 20, 1983. With children Christopher Lee Cardenas and Patrick Michael Cardenas, they formed a family. She later gave her husband a son, Richard Brian, and a daughter, Laura Kristin. In addition to her career in education, she was an active band parent at Ronald Reagan High School from 1999 to 2007. All four of her children moved on to success in their chosen life’s work, earning a total of seven college degrees to make their mother and father extremely proud. Olga also loved her two grandchildren, Colten Lee and Chase Garreson of Mansfield, Texas, both of whom excel in their studies at Mansfield High School and Jerry Knight STEM Academy.
If it can be said that Olga had a hobby, it would be cooking fantastic meals for her family, and even this was met with the same dedication and passion that she gave her life’s work. Despite a long day at school, she almost always found time to prepare a full meal for the whole family each evening, and her Sunday dinners were a great start to the work and school week. The highlight of the holiday season was Thanksgiving dinner at her home where she would almost single-handedly prepare a feast of two entrees, six sides, and all the trimmings for a large family reunion every year, an event that will be sadly missed by her husband, and all who called her Mom and Grandma. Olga’s love of her husband, children, grandchildren, students, family, and friends, will live on in the lives of all she touched.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 10:30 am., at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1602 Thousand oaks Dr., San Antonio, Texas, followed by a procession to Holy Cross Cemetery 17501 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio TX 78266. All are welcome to attend.
