Oma Carey

A military wife for 32 years, Dell volunteered with the American Red Cross and Family Services at each military base where the family was stationed. After retirement, Dell and her husband, Jack, were sponsors to many cadets at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following a debilitating accident to her daughter, Katy, Jack and Dell became her caregivers and continued her care for 40 years; the last six years were carried on by Dell solely after her husband's death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. John B. Carey, Jr. and daughter, Kathaleen Ann Scarborough.

She is survived by her daughters, Coleen Carey-Mitchell and husband Jim, Jacqueline Jean McLaughlin and husband Doug, and Deirdre Dee Carey; and her grandson, Thomas Brett Malone.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 1:45 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice in San Antonio.
