

Omar Javier Garcia, lovingly known as "OJ," was born on July 14, 1975, in Weslaco, Texas, and passed away on June 5, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. He was 50 years old. Omar’s life was marked by dedication to his family, a fulfilling career, and a love for the great outdoors.
Omar is survived by his beloved wife, Yvonne Garcia, and their cherished daughter, Gabriella Garcia, who was the light of his life. He is also survived by his parents, Eduardo and Alicia Garcia; his siblings Eddie Garcia, Marissa Billett, and Marcos Garcia (Elisa); as well as his nephews and niece Christopher Billett, Michael Garcia, Valerie Garcia and Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends.
A dedicated professional, Omar earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. His career began as an Investigator II for Harris County in 2000, he later worked as an Environmental Protection Specialist at San Antonio Water System. In 2008, he joined the Edwards Aquifer Authority, where his expertise and commitment led to progressive roles, culminating in his position as Senior Director of Water Resources in 2024. Omar loved his job, his staff and all those he worked with throughout his career. He took immense pride in his contributions to preserving natural resources. His professional career, which spanned over two decades, was marked by dedication and excellence in water resource management and environmental conservation.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Omar embraced life with enthusiasm and energy. Omar cherished time spent outdoors. He found joy in outdoor activities such as fishing - whether from a pier or on a boat - and enjoyed swimming the waves and relaxing at the beach. Omar was passionate about running and participated in numerous events, including Beach to Bay Relay Marathon, Rock 'n' Roll Half and Full Marathons, as well as Austin and Houston Marathons. Omar also had a passion for cooking and grilling. He enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and perfecting slow-smoked briskets to share with loved ones. Beach and Camping trips with family and friends were among his favorite pastimes.
In 2008, Omar met Yvonne, the love of his life. They married on April 5, 2014, and built a life filled with love and adventures.They created treasured memories visiting destinations like the Bahamas and St. Lucia while also enjoying family vacations to South Padre Island and North Padre Island. Movie nights and time spent with family and friends were among their most cherished moments together. Their greatest blessing came on April 18, 2016, with the birth of their beloved daughter, Gabriella Rose Garcia.
Omar’s greatest joy was being a father to Gabby. Their bond was unbreakable as they spent countless hours laughing together, cooking meals side by side, playing games, exploring nature, practicing softball, and watching their favorite cartoons and movies. The time they shared was filled with love and laughter that will forever be treasured.
Everyone loved Omar's sense of humor and quick wit. He loved kidding around and playing jokes on his family. He could always bring smiles and laughs to all who knew him. He had a competitive spirit and enjoyed making friendly bets on college football games and participated enthusiastically in fantasy football leagues with coworkers and friends. He was a huge fan of the Houston Astros and Houston Texans and passed on that love to his wife and daughter.
Omar’s legacy is one of love for family, passion for life’s adventures, dedication to his work in water resources and environmental conservation, and an unwavering ability to bring joy to those around him. May his memory live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, laughter, and love.
A Rosary will be held on June 22, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Porter Loring Funeral Home (1710 W Loop 1604).
A Funeral Mass will follow on June 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Matthew Catholic Church (10703 Wurzbach Rd.), with a procession departing from the funeral home at 9:30 AM.
A reception will be held afterward at St. Matthew Klesse Ballroom.
