On July 26, 2008 Ophelia Murillo relinquished her beautiful fight surrounded by the prayers, hymns and the compassionate embraces of her family. A passionate wife and mother, she lived for her family who always felt her tenacious love expressed while in her presence. Born on April 7, 1933 in Asherton, Texas her humble beginnings provided the foundation for the steadfast faith in God and family that carried her through her entire life. Graduating from Asherton High School in 1952, she then moved to San Antonio to attend business school. After her studies she worked in the offices of USAA and the Northside ISD. Her last work as a substitute teacher kept her in close contact with the young children she was fond to be around. Her career spanned well over 40 years. Commitment to the church played an integral part of her life. She married Edward lovingly known as her Eddie on August 31, 1957 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. Ophelia and Eddie served together as members of the Guadalupana Auxiliary and both were involved in other vital services to St. Dominic's Catholic Church of San Antonio their entire married life. Ophelia was preceded in death by her parents Apolonio Polo and Francisca Villarreal Cruz. She is survived by her devoted husband of 51 years Edward Murillo, daughters and spouses Cathy and Kevin Lyman of Austin, Texas, Pat and Mark Gonzalez of Plano, Texas and Sandy and Mark Keys of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her loving sister Odilia C. Amaya. She will also be greatly missed by her 9 grandchildren Ariel, Ethan, James, John, Jessica, Nikki, Elyssa, Josh, and Kyle. The family is deeply indebted to the limitless love and compassion offered to Ophelia at the Barton Hills Lodge Assisted Living by the kind staff under the supervision of Gabriela Pedrosa.
