

Owen K. Renner, Jr., age 99, passed away on February 28, 2023 in Schertz, Texas. Owen was born October 3, 1923 in Vandalia, Michigan. His family moved to Jackson, Michigan where he attended Jackson High School where he met the love of his live, Barbara Goodall. Owen attended Jackson Junior College where he obtained a degree in basic engineering. After graduation he got a job as a draftsman at Consumer Power in Jackson. After Pearl Harbor, Owen felt pulled to serve his country and enlisted in Army Aircorps at age 19. He served proudly from 1942-1946 as an NCO radio repair and maintainer. He left the Army as a Tech Sergeant and returned to Consumer Power. He soon left to work for the railroad as a telephone maintainer. Owen married Barbara on September 13, 1947. Soon after, he began working for Michigan Bell Telephone Company where he would stay until retirement. In 1950, Owen joined the Free Masons in Jackson.
Owen is remembered as a man who was very particular regarding how he likes things done. He had a specific routine for just about everything between winding the clocks at the same time and same order each week to getting the trash ready for pick up. He was meticulous about how he kept the yard and how he took care of his tools. But most of all, Owen had a heart of gold. His kindness was a blessing to all those people who were so fortunate to know him. He impacted the lives of so many and left his mark upon this earth. Owen will be missed.
Owen was preceded in death by his mother, Alena Beukema; father, Owen K. Renner, Sr.; step-father, Rev. Cecil Albright; Wife, Barbara; step-brother, Millard; step-sister, Marjorie; brother, Robert and daughter, Baby Girl (stillborn). Owen is survived by his sons: Bob and wife YunJu of Birmingham, AL; Steve and wife Bonnie of Eloy, AZ; Chris and wife Julia of Schertz, TX; five grandchildren: Sam, Matthew, Heather, Thomas, and BJ & wife Serena; and one great grandchild, Emily.
Visitation / Memorial will be held at Porter Loring Mortuary North on Sunday, June 11, 2023 between 2:00-5:00 p.m. Service with full military honors will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation (garysinisefoundation.org).
