Ozell McKinnerney Yates (affectionately known as “Bean” by her McKinnerney family), 94, beloved Wife, Mother and Granny, peacefully went to be with our Heavenly Father and her beloved husband of 73 years, Harold Lloyd Yates, on April 2, 2022. She entered this world on July 13, 1927 in Best, Texas, born to C. C. and Nellie Myers McKinnerney (7th child of 10). Her interests included bowling, cooking, sewing, and church activities. Of course, her greatest pleasure was shopping for and with her grandchildren. Ozell was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was able to travel to see many of their activities which included baseball games all over the United States, Texas Relays, Volleyball games, pep rallies, homecoming, all of their high school graduations, all of their college graduations, all of their weddings, and the births of her great grandchildren.
Ozell was an amazing woman who was known for the way she loved everyone. She dedicated her life to her family, church, and community. She was a long time member of MacArthur Park Church of Christ. She is survived by her only child Jan (husband Gary); four grandchildren Zach (wife Monica), Lindsay, JT (wife Audrey), and Jenn (husband Chase); and five great grandchildren Kayson, Bryce, Addyson, Harper, and Xander.
She is also survived by two brothers; A.D. McKinnerney and Floyd McKinnerney, and by numerous nieces and nephews; Scott Gibson, Gayland McKinnerney, Judy Womack, Dale McKinnerney, Rickie McKinnerney, Connie Wente, Mackie McKinnerney, Treasa Miller, Gwenell Miller, Sam White, Patty Weid, Deryl McKinnerney, Gwen Holcomb, Susie McAngus, Pam Miller, Martha Ellis, Lynna Littleton, Carla Funderburg, Randy Mitchell, Tanya Chapman, and Jill Smith.
Ozell was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold Yates, three brothers; W.H. McKinnerney, John McKinnerney, and Jim McKinnerney; and four sisters; Etta Solsbery, Babe Edwards, Venita Martin and Geneva White; Three nieces; Carolyn Gibson, Cleona White, and Sherry Lux; and Two nephews; Ronnie Yates and Jackie Yates.
The Visitation will 8am, Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home with the Funeral Service to be at 9 am. The burial will follow at 10am at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be JT Files, Zach Stephens, Chase Hallam, Geoffrey Miller, Jason Brandt, and Roger Davilla. Honorary pallbearers will be Gayland McKinnerney, Dale Mckinnerney, Rickie Mckinnerney, Mackie McKinnerney, Sam White, and Deryl McKinnerney.
