Patricia Ann Bailey, 85, passed away due to COVID complications on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on September 11, 1935 in Paris, Kentucky to Lois Ann and Charles Clifton Harney. She later called Columbus and Westerville, Ohio her home. Patricia attended Westerville High School in Ohio and later pursued pastoral ministry studies at Christian Outreach School of Ministries in Hillsboro, Missouri.
Prior to Pat studying pastoral ministries, she served Christ the King Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ohio for many years heading up its women’s ministry and serving as administrative assistant to Pastor Robert Swanger, Sr. Her later pastoral journeys led her to Chicago where she served five congregations: Trinity Vineyard Christian Church (St. Charles), Tinley Park Vineyard (Tinley Park), Church of the Resurrection (Wheaton), Church of the Great Shepherd (Wheaton) and Naperville Vineyard (Naperville) until she retired to San Antonio to escape the windy and snowy Chicago winters. While in Chicago, she served as spiritual director for Northern Illinois Tres Dias and was president of the Riverain Resident Council.
Upon her move to San Antonio she quickly became involved with Central Texas Tres Dias in Austin, serving as a spiritual director. She was instrumental in bringing Tres Dias to San Antonio, which became known as Alamo City Tres Dias, where she was a spiritual director and a member of its board.
Patricia was an ardent Christ follower, daughter, sister, wife, loving mother of five, aunt, grandmother to countless children (whether related or not), friend, mentor, pastor, writer and baker extraordinaire. She fiercely loved Jesus, her family and her friends.
Our family has lost its matriarch who was the most kind-hearted, compassionate, honest, wise and warmest woman with the sweetest soul and strongest will. She loved preaching God’s Word and praising Him in worship, spending quality time with family and friends and her beloved cat Lilly, cooking a delicious pot roast, baking countless cookies, watching Hallmark movies on a never-ending loop, playing board games and completing her sudoku puzzles. And, if you really knew her, the word card-shark would definitely come to mind. We all could go on and on about her; thankfully these memories will live on in our hearts forever. It will be challenging but we will be okay because of the strength and hope of Jesus she instilled in all of us.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Lois Ann and Charles Clifton Harney and is survived by three siblings, Ellen (James) Pugh, Kay (David) Shuster and Roger Harney; her children Kathy Strawn, Deborah Brown, Barbara (Steven) Flood, Susan (Daniel) Pennell and Brian (Becky) Bailey; grandchildren, Jason (Julie) Brown, Angela (Tracy) Miller, Michelle (Daniel) Tiffany, Casie Troxel, John Pennell, Annie Strawn, Nathan Bailey and Joshua Bailey; and nine great grandchildren. She also is survived by the loving families and children of Luan and Mark Bradac and Kelly and Chuck Curtis in Chicago and also Harry and Celeste Miller and their children in San Antonio, all who were angels on earth to her for many years.
For her San Antonio friends, a virtual celebration of life for Pat will be held Saturday, February 6,2021 at 3:00 p.m. coordinated by Lifehouse Church in San Antonio. Please go to the church website, www.lifehousesa.com/media , to access service details and the link.
