Patricia was born on November 17, 1938 to Mr. and Mrs. William Henry Blanks in San Angelo, Texas. She attended San Angelo High School and graduated in 1955. After high school she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she earned an Associate of Arts degree in English. She then attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education, graduating in 1960.
She began her career in education in Odessa, Texas where she taught for seven years. She later moved to the Texas Hill Country where she taught at Tivy High School in Kerrville, then moved to San Antonio where she taught for 23 years. Over the course of her notable teaching career, she received many accolades, including being listed three separate times in the Who’s Who of American Teachers. One of the things she looked forward to each year as a Middle School educator at St. George Episcopal School was taking her eighth grade students to Washington DC and other historical sites where she shared her love of history with them. She retired in 2005.
Patricia met her husband, Gerald Barham, in Odessa,Texas and they were married on August 22,1964 in San Angelo, Texas. They had three children, Scott, Ann, and Steve, whom they raised in San Antonio.
Patricia was a treasured mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend. She was larger than life, had a great sense of humor, and always had a funny "West Texas" saying or one-liner. Pat had many interests and activities that kept her busy when she wasn’t teaching and into retirement. She was a member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church for over 50 years and spent many of those years volunteering her time on the Church Council, Choir, Altar Guild, and various other roles. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and you could find her every Friday night at “dinner club” with her tight knit group of friends. She enjoyed playing Bridge, Dominoes, and Mah Jongg with her various groups. She enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, Texas and American History, Ancestry, Politics and Sports. Pat could tell you the latest news on the San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, TCU, and Texas A&M.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Barham (1990), and her parents, William Henry Blanks (1978), and Gladys McKay Blanks (1973).
She is survived by her three children, Scott (Melissa), Ann, and Steve (Tammy); her grandchildren Lauren (Rachelle), Colton, Haley (Davy), Garrett (McKenna), Kaylynn (Levi), Trevor, Grace, Luke, and Jackson; and her great grandchildren Brynlee, Kace, Hudson, Austin, and Callum.
