She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Austin College and began working at Southwestern Bell in customer services where she met and married George Franklin Brooks in 1952. She left her job to raise their three children, Courtney Brooks Westerman, Matt Brooks, and Shannon Brooks. Their family moved often because of George's career, but the Episcopal church was a constant in her life; she was always an active member of the altar guild, serving as president in various parishes.
The family moved to San Antonio when George became the director of the Southwestern Bell exhibit at Hemisfair and they remained in San Antonio until their children were grown. They moved to Dallas, the city that she loved most, where she worked again for Southwestern Bell until they retired, returning to San Antonio to be close to their children and grandchildren. Until George died, they travelled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Australia.
Pat is survived by her three children and their spouses; Allen Westerman, Debra Brooks, and Fletcher Johnson; grandchildren, Maude Westerman Pampel and her husband, Tony, Claire Westerman Lea and her husband, Graham, Matthew Brooks, Tyler Brooks, Lindsay Brooks, Miranda Burton Montiel and her husband, Juan, Trevor Burton and his wife, Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Emmie and Sam Pampel and Sadie and Braxton Montiel.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1018 E. Grayson, San Antonio, Texas 78208.
