Patricia Lou DaCamara Bryan passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of May 28, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas. Born November 23, 1930, Patricia was the first daughter of Shirley and Florence DaCamara, of Laredo, Texas.
She graduated from Martin High School and proceeded to the University of Texas at Austin where she studied education and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
After graduating from the University of Texas in 1952, Patricia worked briefly for the United States Department of State in Washington, D.C., before marrying the love of her life, then Lieutenant Austin R. Bryan, USAF. As an Air Force wife, Patricia accompanied her husband on assignments across the United States and around the world, but continued to call Texas home.
She used her education degree to teach Spanish, French, and ESL in the United States and abroad. She taught in Department of Defense Schools in Europe, in Hanau and Ramstein Germany; in International Schools in Athens, Greece, and Dhahran and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and in public schools in Laredo and San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to teaching, Patricia was a devoted mother to her daughter Deborah Lou Bryan Balls, and to her son, Austin R. Bryan, Jr.
She was a member of the Air Force Officers Wives' Club and actively involved in OWC projects and charities, including Air Force Village. Patricia was an ardent advocate for Air Force Village from its earliest days of inception - wholeheartedly believing in its good work, particularly its support of retired Air Force officer widows in need of financial assistance.
In addition to her support for military service members and their families, Patricia was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Colonelretired Austin R. Bryan; her sister, Priscilla DaCamara Hancock of Castroville, Texas, and her family; her daughter, Debbie Bryan Balls of San Antonio, Texas, and her family; and her son, Austin R. Bryan Jr. of Sydney, Australia, and his family.
She will be remembered by family and friends as a lover of life and a joy to all those she met.
