Patricia Burns Clark Dailey

Mrs. Patricia Burns Clark Dailey passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Friday, August 5, 2011, at the age of 93. Patricia was born April 3, 1918 in Taylor, Texas to Tom and Adella Black Burns.

She spent her childhood years in Taylor, San Antonio and the family ranch in Dilley. Pat attended the University of Texas where she pledged Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After her mother's untimely death during her freshman year, Pat returned to San Antonio to help her father.

She graduated from Incarnate Word College with a Bachelor Degree in English. After graduation Pat frequently graced the society pages of the local newspapers, where she was described as "Miss Pert Pat Burns who always can see the funny side of things." She could also be found galloping on horseback through Brackenridge Park with her many beaux.

In June, 1942, Patricia married Capt. Walter Clark of Ontario, California and began her journey as an Air Force wife and mother. Tragically, Colonel Clark, then Commander of Phalsbourg Air Force Base in France, died in a plane crash in 1958. Pat gathered her "tribe" and sailed on the SS United States returning home to San Antonio. It was here she made a life for herself and her five children.

In 1969, she married James Dailey. Together they instilled in the children a love and appreciation for the outdoors. Sadly, "Jimbo" died in 1989. Pat was a devoted member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, St. Monica's Guild, Military Civilian Club, Battle of Flowers Association, San Antonio Bridge League, San Antonio Golf and Bridge Associations, as well as the Spade and Trowel and Meadowood Garden Clubs. She so enjoyed her membership at the San Antonio Country Club serving as a self-appointed recruiter and mentor to many young aspiring golf and bridge enthusiasts. She was an avid golfer, making a hole-in-one at the SACC, and a Life Master at duplicate bridge. Pat enjoyed the foursome be it on the golf course or bridge table. She also loved a good bargain, music, dancing, laughter, and NEVER missed a party.

Pat was predeceased by her parents Adella and Tom Burns, step-mother Martha Burns, brother Hugh Burns and his wife Janet; and niece Laura Burns Moore. Pat was deeply loved and cared for by her daughters, Carolyn Clark, Michele Clark Cadwallader and husband, Randy and their sons, Clark and Randy and his wife, Ginny; her son, Christopher Clark and his children, Adriane, Clifford, Brandon and great-grandson, Gavin. She is also survived by sons, Richard, his wife Jadwiga and their son Patrick, and Craig Clark.

Her family would also like to sincerely thank her compassionate and kind physician, Dr. Paul Smith, loving and loyal caregivers Sylvia Navarro, Ada Peterson, Janie Gonzales, Rose Rouse, Lisa Villanueva, Barbara Hilton and the wonderful care given by the Vitas Hospice personnel, specifically nurses Jennifer and Terry. Pat loved and cherished her family and many friends. Our memories of her will sustain us. And we can say, "I knew Pat when." We all carry a special part of Patricia's spirit in our hearts. Collectively she will live on through all of us. That is God's wondrous gift.
