Patricia was born on December 30, 1958, in Charleston, South Carolina, in the Navy hospital.Being the youngest Army Brat in the family, she moved often, until her father’s new position with USAA brought the family to San Antonio, Texas, where Patricia lived until her passing. Pat was adored by her 3 older siblings and 4 cousins, then at age 11 she lived as an only child in the house.
Patricia was a Renaissance woman! She was accomplished on the flute, was good enough at Equestrian skills that the parents offered to buy her a horse (she said no, thank you, having learned the work and dedication that takes), she was an excellent photographer, primarily in the music industry, and she was an artist, painting and drawing being her preferred areas. She designed each of her elaborate tattoos. One of Pat’s specialties was decorating eggshells as her grandmother had. Pat was also a writer, a researcher, and a genealogist. Her family records go back many generations and include many, many photographs! Pat was a Trekkie, having seen and reseen every single episode of Star Trek. In her younger adult years, she was friends with the members of The Moody Blues band, even painting a picture of Patrick which was given to his mother, whom Pat also had met. She loved live music, and followed several bands special to her, including Del Castillo. Jazz also loved participating in the “Cons” such as Dragon Con.
Pat was also an animal lover, having had as pets over the years a dog, a tarantula, other reptiles, and her many beloved cats. She was especially fond of bats. She was a collector of things special to her, including art work, pottery, and antiques belonging to our family from China, France, Samoa, Austria, and more. She attended many Renaissance Festivals and would dress the part. Pat’s other interests focused primarily on the earth, the stars and planets beyond earth, and the animals and plants that make up the earth. She educated herself on these topics, and learned a lot traveling with our mother to Iceland, Costa Rica, and Alaska.
Her first job was in the original Schlotsky’s Restaurant. Patricia attended the University of Texas for a year. She was employed by the government the remainder of her career. She worked for many years at the Commissary at Fort Sam Houston, then with the hospital complex at Lackland Air Force Base which became the Joint Air Force Base. These positions involved not only her co-workers but the public as well.Pat definitely touched many lives with her many interests and abilities. While she would say she didn’t like people, she was a primary caretaker for both her parents at end of life for them, even serving as Executor, and assisted with care of other family members. She has shown steadfast love to her extended family and to dear friends.
Patricia was pre-deceased by her mother, Jeanne Marie Douglas, her father, James Shepard Douglas, her brother, James Shepard Douglas, Jr, and her step-sister Sandra Yarbrough. She leaves behind sister Darcy Douglas (children Troy Douglas Carpenter and Angela Carpenter), brother William Alan Douglas (children Zachary Lattan Douglas and Erica Michelle Douglas), and sister-in-law Cindy Douglas (children Aaron Reuben Douglas and James Shepard Douglas III), step-brother David McClain (Belle) and Sandy’s husband Mike Yarbrough (children Wayne, Megan, and Matt), as well as great nieces and nephews Lumi Vuori, Otso Vuori, Sophia Carpenter, Samari Carpenter, Zoe Carpenter, Taylor Douglas, Isla Douglas, and Roen Douglas. All 7 first cousins and their families also remain to mourn her passing.
