Patricia Louise Zimmerman went home to be with Jesus on December 4, 2025. She was born June 16, 1929 in Douglas, Arizona to Clarence and Helen McBride. She grew up in San Antonio and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. She married Walter Zimmerman on December 23, 1949. After living in several places due to Walter being in the Air Force, they moved to Port Isabel, where they lived for 52 years.
During their many years in Port Isabel, while Walt worked in the shrimping business, Pat was a stay-at-home mom taking care of their four daughters, volunteering in their schools, taking care of their home, and seeking to meet the needs of their girls. Even as the girls left home and started their own families, she was there for the birth of every grandchild helping the new mom. She loved those babies! Pat and Walt attended First United Methodist Church in Port Isabel for many years where she was very active in the Women’s Society of Christian Service and served on various committees. They later joined Island Baptist Church where she co-taught a ladies’ Sunday School class and enjoyed planning and serving at church functions.
When Walt semi-retired in 2005, he and Pat moved back to San Antonio. They became members of Community Bible Church where she served as a Sunday morning greeter and a Pursuit Bible study table leader. Many years later Pat joined University Methodist Church.
Pat will be remembered as a woman who truly loved the Lord and exemplified the fruit of the Spirit in her daily living. It was important to her to worship the Lord each Sunday morning, even when she could no longer be physically present at church. Faithfully she watched University Methodist and The Woodlands First Baptist Church each Sunday. Pat was loving, thoughtful, and so generous. Whenever she became aware of a need, she wanted to be a part of helping to meet that need. She also generously gave to various ministries such as Samaritan’s Purse, St. Jude’s Hospital, and other worthy causes. Her beautiful spirit influenced so many others that she was often called “Mama Pat.” She truly had a servant’s heart.
Pat had an eye for design and always looked like a beautiful fashion model which matched the spirit that lived inside of her. People often were astonished when she told them her age. Whether you knew her for many years or a short time, such as the hospice nurses, you were blessed by her smile and loving ways. Even in the midst of her pain and suffering, she continued to show concern for others.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Zimmerman. She is survived by her daughters, Linda and husband Harley Londrie of Laguna Vista, Susan and husband Alan Delafield of San Antonio, Deede and husband Fred Baum of Tucson, Lori and husband Hampton Keathley of Garland, and Sharon and husband Greg Cooper-- a daughter she “adopted” shortly after moving to San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charity of your choice or University Methodist Church children’s ministry.
A Celebration of Life service followed by a reception will be held on Thursday, December 18 at 10:30 a.m. at University Methodist Church, located at 5084 De Zavala, San Antonio, Texas 78249.
